NORTHRIDGE, Calif --- CSUN Softball earned their fourth Big West series win on Saturday as the Matadors downed the UC Davis Aggies 12-1 in five innings. CSUN won the series on a run-rule victory at Matador Diamond as Mikayla Carman and Tiara Westbrook each hit a home run in the win. Lauryn Carranco earned the win for the Matadors, tossing her 14th complete game of the season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
There was no score until the bottom of the second inning. Alexis Chavez kicked off the inning with a single to left field. The next batter, Kylie Galindo, singled to right field and after two Aggie errors on the play, Chavez came around to score as CSUN led 1-0 through two.
Â
In the bottom of the third CSUN added four more. Raegan Jackson got things going with a double to left-center. Carman, the senior, then sent a ball over the left field wall for her first career home run, giving the Matadors a a 3-0 game lead. After Jadyn Nielsen walked, Westbrook then blasted a home run over the right field wall to make it a 5-0 game. Her homer was her sixth of the year.
Â
In the next inning for the Matadors, CSUN did much more damage. Jackson singled to left field to start the inning before Carman then was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Nielsen. Nielsen then singled to left field to bring in the sixth run for CSUN. Westbrook then reached on an error to load the bases. Gizella Vargas Sandoval then also reached on an error, as Carman and Nielsen scored to score CSUN's seventh and eighth runs.
Â
The Matadors would continue to scoring in the fourth as Jerzie Liana singled to right field, scoring Ruiz for the ninth run. Chavez then walked to load the bases again and Kylie Galindo brought home CSUN's 10th run after being hit by a pitch. With Mackenzie Padila at the plate, a wild pitch scored an 11th run before Jackson then hit a sacrifice fly to score CSUN's final run of the inning.
Â
Carranco retired three out of the five batters she faced. An Aggie scored on an error by the second baseman, however CSUN's big lead was enough to win via the run rule.

NEWS AND NOTES
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
"We have a lot of resiliency. We have 100 percent bought into the work we're trying to do here. We have kept challenging our players. Our offense is capable of big things. When we play free our team capitalizes and does what we need to do in order to win. I thought Lauryn did a great job in the circle. I am proud of their response after the last couple of games."
