CSUN & Track & Field Sets Sights on 2025 Big West Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field heads to Long Beach this week for the 2025 Big West Championships at Jack Rose Track from May 16-17.
Field events will start on Friday at 10:30 a.m. followed by track events at 1:00 p.m. while Saturday features field events at 10 a.m. and track events at 2 p.m.

The CSUN men's team will compete in 15 total events while the women's team will have representatives in 14 individual events.

KELPIS FINISHES SIXTH IN HEPTATHLON AT BIG WEST MULTIS
CSUN's senior Brianna Kelpis opened up the Big West Championships last weekend with a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon. Kelpis set a personal record in the event with 4,950 points while she collected three team points for the CSUN women's team in the Big West Championship team leaderboard. Her highest point total was 941 points in the 100m-hurdles with her time of 14.27 while she finished as high as second place in the shot put with her throw of 12.20m (40-0.5), good for 674 points. Kelpis also set a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:38.44, capturing 591 points.
A LOOK BACK AT 2024 BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
CSUN's men's team would finish fourth at last year's Big West Championships in San Luis Obispo, the program's highest finish since the 2015 season. Four athletes from the Matador men's team won individual titles at the 2025 event, which included Chase Mars (200m), Trey Knight (Hammer), Chris Pitts (400m) and Dillon Peters (Triple Jump). The CSUN women's team would claim ninth place at the 2024 conference championships while Emily Hutchinson took home the shot put championship.
LEADING THE PACK
Senior Trey Knight leads the Big West and ranks second in the nation in the hammer throw this season with his school record toss of 77.91m (255-7) at the Trojan Invitational in March while junior Tibyasa Matovu also tops the conference in the 400m with his school record time of 46.01 at the Desert Heat Classic earlier this month. On the women's team, Summer Mosley tops the Big West in the discus with her mark of 52.76m (173-1) set at the Steve Scott Invitational in May and leads in the hammer throw with her toss of 61.71m (202-5) at the Trojan Invite.
