CSUN Set For Hawai’i Road Trip With Matchup Against Rainbow Wahine

GAME NOTES
HONOLULU, Hawai'i --- The CSUN women's basketball team (8-14, 4-9 Big West) will take on the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine (13-10, 7-6 Big West) at the Stan Sherriff Center on Saturday, Feb 14. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m. PT. This is the final matchup between these two teams as Big West opponents. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
ABOUT LAST WEEK
VS Cal Poly 02/05/26
CSUN snapped a six-game losing streak, defeating the Cal Poly Mustangs, 65-50 after scoring 50 points in the second half. CSUN won by 15 despite entering intermission down 26-15. CSUN was down by as much as 18 in the third quarter before coming back. Four CSUN players scored in double-figures with Jite Gbemuotor leading the charge with 15 points and 16 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season. Morgan Edwards had 14 points while Saray White scored 13 and Mariona Cos-Morales posted 12 points. CSUN dominated in the paint with 38 of its 65 points coming on inside shots.
VS UC Riverside 02/07/26
CSUN was victorious over the UC Riverside Highlanders, 58-53 at SRC Arena on Saturday afternoon. Rita Nazario led the Matadors with 16 points, while Jite Gbemuotor had 13 points and 13 rebounds, her second consecutive double-double and fifth of the season. CSUN had 30 points in the paint to UCR's 16. CSUN had 10 steals. Nazario made four of CSUN's six shots from behind the arc.
JITE HAS BEEN A STAR TRANSFER
Jite Gbemuotor has made a huge impact this season after transferring from Ole Miss. The sophomore from Delta State, Nigeria, has scored in double figures in eight out of the last 11 games and in nine games total. She also leads the team in double-doubles with five. She has led CSUN in rebounding in 10 different games so far this year, while leading the Matadors in rebounds per game at 7.8 per contest. She also averages 9.4 rebounds per game in Big West games alone, which is good for third in the conference.
FIGHTING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT
The top eight teams in the Big West after the season ends will have an automatic bid to the 2026 Credit Union 1 Big West Women's Basketball Championship in Henderson, Nevada from March 11-14. CSUN had a big week last week in terms of the standings. With their two wins, the Matadors now have a two-game lead on the eighth and final seed of the tournament. CSUN is 4-9 in Big West play, and the next closest team is Long Beach State at 2-11. Cal State Bakersfield is not too far behind at 2-12. CSUN hosts Long Beach State on February 21 and the Roadrunners on March 5.
SHOTS FROM DISTANCE IS THE NAME OF OUR GAME
CSUN gets a lot of its offense from three-point shots. Currently, CSUN is 46th in the nation in three-pointers made per game, which is good for fourth in the Big West. Rita Nazario currently paces the team in three-pointers made on the year, as she has drilled 55 shots from distance. Morgan Edwards is second on the team with 25 made. Six different Matadors have drilled double-digit shots from downtown so far this year.
BRINGING DOWN THE BOARDS
CSUN currently leads the Big West in rebounds per game at 39.7. Gbemuotor is currently pacing the Matadors with 171 rebounds this season. Saray White has 93 on the year followed by Mariona Cos-Morales in third with 83 and Nadia Bernard in fourth with 82. Every Matador has at least 22 rebounds this season, with seven different Matadors averaging at least three rebounds per game.
SCOUTING HAWAI'I
The Rainbow Wahine enter the weekend in sixth place in the Big West standings. Since an 0-5 start to conference play, Hawai'i has gone 7-1 to climb up the standings. Freshman guard Bailey Flavell continues to lead the 'Bows with 13.7 points per game and is on track to become the first freshman to lead the team in scoring average since the 2010-11 season.
Following Flavell in scoring is Keiara Curtis who is averaging 9.4 PPG on the season.
As a team, UH leads the Big West and ranks sixth in the nation with 6.1 blocks per game. Earlier this week, the Rainbow Wahine grinded out a 61-54 win over CSU Bakersfield on Thursday for their fifth straight home win and seventh victory overall over the last eight games.
Series History: This is the last contest between these two foes under the umbrella of the Big West conference. Both teams meet for the 32nd time in a series that began on Jan. 3, 1983, where CSUN fell 74-66 at the Coors Golden Gate Invitational in San Francisco, Calif. UH is 20-11 all-time against the Matadors. Hawai'i has won the last 10 meetings. The last CSUN victory came on Jan. 9, 2020, 58-54 at Premier America Credit Union Arena.
