FULLERTON, Calif --- The CSUN softball team dropped two games on Saturday at the Easton Classic, falling to Ole Miss, 10-1 in game one, and 24-6 to Boise State in game two.Â
Â
GAME ONE vs OLE MISSÂ
The Matadors struck first, plating the game's opening run in the bottom of the first inning. Madison Okano singled to lead off the frame, moved into scoring position on a bunt single by Emma Lopez and came home when Vanessa Perez grounded out to second base.
Â
Ole Miss responded in the third inning, tying the game on a wild pitch after loading the bases. The Rebels took the lead for good in the fourth as Cassie Reasner launched a solo home run to left field to make it 2-1.
The Rebels added three runs in the fifth inning behind a three-run home run from Persy Llamas, extending the lead to 5-1. Ole Miss then broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits, highlighted by Reasner's three-run double to left-center.
Â
CSUN managed four hits on the day, with Okano, Lopez, Raegan Jackson and Perez each recording a hit. Kaitlyn Tso took the loss in the circle for the Matadors, allowing five runs in four innings, while Perseus Yanez worked the final two frames in relief.
Â
Ole Miss pitcher Kyra Aycock earned the win, limiting CSUN to one run while striking out four over six innings.
Â
GAME TWO vs BOISE STATE
CSUN built an early lead and continued to battle at the plate, but Boise State's offense broke through late to hand the Matadors a 24-6 loss.Â
The Matadors came out of the gates sharp offensively, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning.
Â
After Okano reached base to open the frame, CSUN capitalized with productive outs, including a sacrifice fly from Jadyn Nielsen and an RBI double down the left-field line by Makenzi Padilla to take a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Matadors added to their cushion in the third inning, again manufacturing runs with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Jackson scored after reaching base, and Nielsen delivered her second RBI of the game with a single to left-center, pushing CSUN's lead to 4-0.
Â
CSUN continued to apply pressure in the fourth as Savannah Simons crossed the plate on an RBI double by Isabella Hiner, extending the lead to 5-1.
Â
The fifth inning was the turning point for Boise State as the Broncos flipped the game. Trailing 5-1, the Broncos sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs to jump in front, 6-5. The big blow came from Mya Flindt, who launched a three-run home run to left field that immediately cut into CSUN's lead.
Â
Boise State followed that with back-to-back doubles and kept pressure on the Matadors with productive outs, including a sacrifice fly, to push across additional runs.
Â
Boise State added two runs in the sixth to increase the lead to 8-5, before breaking the game open in the seventh by scoring 16 more times.
Â
CSUN tacked on a run in the seventh inning as Perez doubled to center field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Rivas. The Matadors finished the game with 10 hits, including multi-hit performances from Nielsen, Padilla and Amber Rivas.
