SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
UC Davis (2-6) finished 1-3 at the  Battle for the Bay tournament in Berkeley on Feb. 27-28. The Aggies, coached by former CSUN head coach Ari Homayun, opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Sacramento State, before falling to No. 10 Cal (5-0), No. 1 Stanford (5-0), and Saint Mary's (4-1). UCD's other win this season came over Colorado Mesa in Phoenix on Feb. 21.
Series: Friday's dual match is the 12th meeting all-time between CSUN and UC Davis, dating back to 2019. The Aggies hold a 9-2 lead in the series and have won nine straight, including 3-2 wins in four of the last five dual matches.
No. 19 Arizona (8-3) looks to continue its strong start after opening the season with eight wins in its first 11 duals. The SandCats finished 2-1 at the Sun Devil Classic last weekend, dropping a 3-2 decision to No. 8 Arizona State, before defeating Southern Mississippi (3-2) and Nebraska (5-0).Â
Series: Friday's dual is the fourth all-time between CSUN and Arizona, with the Matadors still looking for their first win. The SandCats posted 5-0 wins in both 2015 and 2016, before taking a tight 3-2 decision at the LMU Beach Courts in 2024.
No. 17 Grand Canyon (5-7) is 4-4 over its last eight dual matches after finishing 0-4 at the MPSF Mid-Season Rumble in Los Angeles last weekend. The Lopes, who went 4-0 at the Cactus Classic in Tucson the weekend before, fell to No. 5 Texas (5-0), No. 2 UCLA (4-1), No. 10 Cal (3-2), and No. 3 USC (5-0) at the MPSF event.
Series:Â Saturday's dual is the sixth all-time between CSUN and Grand Canyon. The Lopes lead 5-0 in the series, defeating the Matadors 5-0 in the most recent meeting in Northridge in 2023.
Oregon (5-8) dropped four dual matches of the MPSF Mid-Season Rumble in Los Angeles last weekend, falling to No. 1 Stanford (5-0), No. 3 USC (5-0), No. 5 Texas (5-0), and No. 2 UCLA (5-0). Previously, the Ducks finished 2-2 at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, picking up wins over No. 19 Georgia State (4-1) and UTEP (5-0).
Series: Saturday's dual match is the third meeting between CSUN and Oregon. The Matadors earned their first-ever win in beach volleyball over the Ducks in Los Angeles in CSUN's inaugural season in 2014. The two teams also met in Northridge in 2022, with CSUN taking a 4-1 win.
CSUN SWEEPS HIU, LA SIERRA IN FINAL HOME DUALS
CSUN Beach Volleyball earned a pair of decisive home victories on Friday at the Matador Beach Volleyball Complex, sweeping both Hope International and La Sierra by identical 5-0 scores to secure its first wins of the season and first for Jeff Hall as the Matadors' head coach.
The Matadors opened the day in dominant fashion, capturing all five scoring flights in a commanding sweep of Hope International.Â
CSUN set the tone early as Dylan Hall and Ava Rogers rolled to a 21-5, 21-11 win at No. 4, one of several lopsided victories that highlighted the Matadors' balance across the lineup, as multiple pairs went undefeated on the day. Ainsley Patrick and Tia Mendiola were equally impressive at No. 2, conceding just 14 combined points in a 21-8, 21-6 triumph.
At No. 3, Jill Rodig and Zaria Henderson delivered a steady 21-5, 21-13 victory, while the top pair of Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles closed out a 21-17, 21-16 win at No. 1 to help seal the sweep. Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert capped the scoring with a balanced 21-14, 21-14 decision at No. 5.
CSUN (2-7) carried its momentum into the afternoon match-up against La Sierra University, once again sweeping all five courts.
Patrick and Mendiola sparked the Matadors with a 21-14, 21-14 win at No. 2, while Hall and Rogers followed with a 21-10, 21-12 victory at No. 4. Coggins and Halbert delivered the most decisive performance of the day at No. 5, cruising 21-4, 21-6 to clinch the dual.
Rodig and Henderson added another straight-set win at No. 3 (21-11, 21-12), and Heflin and Miles battled through a tight second set at No. 1 before securing a 21-15, 22-20 victory to complete the sweep.
CSUN QUICK SETS
After coming agonizingly close in a 3-2 loss to No. 15 Stetson on Mar. 6, CSUN will have another chance to earn its first win over a ranked team this season when the Matadors meet No. 19 Arizona and No. 17Â Grand Canyon this weekend. CSUN is 0-4 this season against ranked teams, also falling twice to No. 4 USC and No. 8 LMU ... Four CSUN pairs lead team with three wins this season; Heflin/Miles, Coggins/Halbert, Mendiola/Patrick, and Rogers/Hall all have three wins with Mendiola and Patrick and Rogers and Hall each sporting a team-best 3-1 overall record ... Patrick owns a 3-1 individual record to lead the Matadors, while Rogers has a team-leading four wins (0-1 at No. 3, 3-1 at No. 4, 1-3 at No. 5).
CSUN BEACH HISTORY
The Matadors are 136-155 (.467) all-time in their 12th season of beach volleyball, including a 73-38 (.658) record on their home sand. CSUN set a program record for single-season wins with 18 in 2025. The Matadors finished with 17 wins in 2023 (17-16), 2022 (17-17), and 2018 (17-8).
