Beach Volleyball Drops a Pair to Open Mustang Roundup

The Matadors (2-9) earned their lone point against UC Davis at the top flight, where Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles defeated Kimi Waller and Ella Erteltova after a retirement following a 21-19 opening-set win.
UC Davis secured the dual with victories in the remaining four flights, including straight-set wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. Kinley Lindhardt and Shelby Santos defeated Tia Mendiola (21-15, 21-15) at No. 2, and Skye Smolinski and Kate O'Steen swept Ava Rogers and Dylan Hall (21-14, 21-13) at No. 4.
Leading 2-1, the Aggies went on to claim the final two pairs, both in three sets. UCD's Ava Berard and Kirra Martin held off Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert, 21-18, 16-21, 15-11 on the No. 5 court before Kendal Steller and Morgan Gillinger claimed a tight 21-23, 21-18, 15-13 win over Jill Rodig and Zaria Henderson to close out the scoring.
NO. 19 ARIZONA 5, CSUN 0
Later in the afternoon, CSUN faced No. 19 Arizona, which captured all five flights to earn a 5-0 victory.
The closest matches came at the top two flights, where Heflin and Miles, along with Mendiola and Patrick, each pushed their Arizona opponents to three sets before falling 24-22, 19-21, 15-10 in both contests.
Arizona also picked up straight-set wins at flights three, four, and five to complete the sweep.
HEAD COACH JEFF HALL SAID
"Some good, some bad today. We just can't find consistency in our performance yet. The team is fighting for every point and just coming up a bit short. Tomorrow is another great opportunity to get better."

CSUN concludes the Mustang Roundup on Saturday as the Matadors look to bounce back against No. 17 Grand Canyon at 2 p.m. and Oregon at 4:30 p.m.
