CSUN Finishes Regular Season With 7-0 Sweep Against Rainbow Wahine

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — The CSUN women's tennis team (14-7, 5-4 Big West) delivered a dominant performance on Saturday morning, sweeping Hawai'i 7-0 in a Big West Conference match at the Matador Tennis Complex. Angela Ho, Emma Moratalla Sanz, Nicole West, Satsuki Ishikawa, Tallia Harper and Sandra Arguelles all won their singles matches for the Matadors.
After dropping the first doubles match, CSUN swept the remaining doubles matches to take the doubles point. Ho and West defeated Grete Gull and Sophie Rachor, 6-4, at Court No. 1. Ishikawa and Madison Shepperson clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over Allaire Berl and Isabella Pampulov at Court No. 3.
The Matadors carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches in straight sets and one in three sets.
The first singles match to finish was at Court No.1. Ho defeated Gull, 6-0, 6-3. The San Francisco native finished her senior campaign with an 11-8 record.
"Today was amazing. The team brought great energy, and we could really feel the love and support from everyone." Ho said. "Having friends and family in the crowd made the match even more fun and entertaining. I felt like I was playing for more than just a match. After spending four years at CSUN, this was my last home match, so I wanted to give it everything I had. I played some of the best tennis of my career, and I couldn't have done it without all the support. I'm so proud of my team, and I'm going to miss them so much."
Tallia Harper cruised past Berl, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 5 position to put the Matadors up 3-0. It was Harper's second win in singles in as many days. Sandra Arguelles clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Pampulov at Court No. 6.
CSUN's leader in wins this season, Moratalla Sanz (16-4), earned the fifth point for CSUN. She earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Makeilah Nepomuceno on Court No.2.
"Today was such a special day for me." Moratalla Sanz said. "Being able to close the season with a win in my last match at the CSUN courts was an amazing feeling. I'm so proud of how we fought throughout the season, and I'm really excited for next week in San Diego."
Ishikawa capped off a perfect regular season in her freshman year. The Japan native finishes the year 12-0 after a 6-4, 6-2 win over Rachor at No. 4 to make it 6-0 in favor of the Matadors.
Lastly, West earned a hard-fought victory at Court No. 3, outlasting Galindo in a match that had a tiebreaking first set, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-1 to earn the seventh and final point of the day for the Matadors.
West, another senior, got a win in her last match at the Matador Tennis Complex. "Today was a perfect senior day." West said. "To get the sweep against Hawai'i right before our conference tournament shows depth and grit. We are so excited to get things rolling."
