CSUN Heads to Long Beach For Saturday Tri-Dual

CSUN Beach Volleyball continues the final month of the regular season this week as the Matadors travel to Long Beach for a tri-dual against Concordia Irvine and the 10th-ranked Beach on Saturday. CSUN (7-18) will take on the Golden Eagles at 11 a.m. before meeting the host Beach at 1 p.m.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Concordia Irvine (11-14) travels to Malibu on Friday for a tri-dual against Pepperdine and San Francisco before Saturday's action in Long Beach. The Golden Eagles split four dual matches in Northern California last weekend, dropping 3-2 decisions to Sacramento State and St. Mary's at Hornet Beach on Friday before picking up a pair of 4-1 wins over San Francisco and Pacific at USF on Saturday.
Series: Saturday's dual match is the third this season and 20th all-time between CSUN and Concordia. The Golden Eagles hold a 10-9 edge in the all-time series after the teams split the first two matches this season. Concordia claimed a 3-2 win at the Matador Beach Complex in CSUN's season opener on Feb. 20 before the Matadors swept the Golden Eagles, 5-0, at the OC Great Park on Mar. 27
No. 10 Long Beach State (18-10) will face Concordia at 9 a.m. and the Matadors at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Long Beach State is led by seniors Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah, who are 19-9 playing in the top flight this season. Tineke Hinton and Demi Wagdy sport a 16-7 record playing on the No. 2 court in 2026.
Series: Saturday's dual match is the second this season and 25th all-time meeting between CSUN and Long Beach. The Beach won 3-2 at the Big West Challenge on Mar. 21, their 24th straight win over CSUN in the all-time series. The Matadors are 0-6 all-time in dual matches at Long Beach State.
CSUN DEFEATSÂ UTEP TO FINISH 1-3 AT BOISE STATE CLASSIC
The Matadors defeated UTEP in the afternoon contest to come away with a split in a pair of dual matches to open the Boise State Classic on Friday (Apr. 3) at the Boise State Beach Volleyball Complex. The Matadors dropped their opening dual, 3-2 to Oregon, before bouncing back with a 3-2 win over the Miners. In the win over UTEP, CSUN secured wins in three of the five flights, getting contributions throughout the lineup to edge the Miners in a tightly contested dual. UTEP picked up the first point of the dual as Krista Paegle and Paulina Acuna defeated Tia Mendiola and Zaria Henderson, 21-11, 21-11 on the No. 2 court. CSUN pulled even when Jill Rodig and Ainsley Patrick defeated Emma Schubert and Evelina Krieva by the score of 21-19, 22-20 in the No. 4 pair.
Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles picked up their 10th win of the season with a 21-13, 21-19 win over UTEP's Mila Popovic and Kennedy Llewellyn on the No. 1 court, Dylan Hall and Ava Rogers then clinched the dual with their seventh straight, topping Averie Threet and Iana Loera, 21-13, 21-14 at No. 3. Adriana Oporto and Alexa Monreal completed the scoring, earning a 21-15, 21-19 victory over Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert in the No. 5 pair.
The Matadors would cap the weekend by dropping their final two matches on Saturday. CSUN opened the day with a 3-2 loss to Santa Clara before the host Boise State Broncos held off CSUN 4-1 to close the tournament.
CSUN QUICK SETS
Dylan Hall and Ava Rogers finished 3-1 in four matches in Boise to improve to a team-best 13-7 this season. Hall and Rogers, who are 8-2 over their last 10 dual matches, are 8-4 on the No. 3 court and 5-3 at No. 4 this season. Rogers leads CSUN with 14 individual wins in 2026, followed by Hall with 13 ... Haley Coggins and Daysha Halbert split their four matches in Boise to improve to 11-14 this season, which ranks second on the team in pairs wins, just ahead of Hannah Heflin and Maleya Miles, who have 10 wins ... Heflin and Hall each increased their career individual win total to 33 following last weekend's action ... Saturday's 3-2 loss to Santa Clara was CSUN's seventh 3-2 decision this season. The Matadors are now 2-7 in 3-2 matches this season with wins over Vanguard and UTEP ... The Matadors will look for their first win over a ranked team this season on Saturday against No. 10 Long Beach State. Following Saturday's 4-1 loss to No. 20 Boise State, CSUN is now 0-10 against ranked teams in 2026.
CSUN BEACH HISTORY
The Matadors are 141-166 (.459) all-time in their 12th season of beach volleyball, including a 73-38 (.658) record on their home sand. CSUN set a program record for single-season wins with 18 in 2025. The Matadors finished with 17 wins in 2023 (17-16), 2022 (17-17), and 2018 (17-8).

Following Saturday's tri-dual at Long Beach State, CSUN will play a single dual match at LMU on Friday (Apr. 17) and a tri-dual against Cal State Bakersfield and Pacific in Bakersfield on Saturday (Apr. 18) to close the regular season.
