CSUN Track & Field Qualifies 10 for NCAA West First Rounds

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN men's and women's track & field teams have qualified 10 student-athletes for the upcoming NCAA West First Round, as announced on Thursday on NCAA.com. This year's western regional will be held from May 27-30 at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field.Â
Both of CSUN's Big West champions in the discus, Summer Mosley and Kyriaun Davis, are among the 10 athletes booked to compete in the NCAA West First Round. In total, six Matadors qualified from the men's team and four from the women's team.Â
Mosley is one-of-three Matador women's athletes to qualify in the discus. The two-time Big West discus champion has qualified for her fourth regional in her collegiate career as she holds the No. 1 mark in the west region at 59.60m (195-6), set at this season's Big West Championships. Seniors Katherine Shipp-Davis and Amani Britton are first-time qualifiers in the NCAA First Round in the discus. Shipp-Davis took second place at the Big West Championships with a PR of 55.28m (181-4) while Britton scored at the event after setting a PR of her own at 51.04m (167-5).Â
Camryn Harris has qualified for her first NCAA First Round this season following a career performance in the triple jump at the Big West Championships. Harris set a PR of 12.86m (42-2.25), reaching the podium with a third-place finish.Â
One-of-two to qualify in the men's discus, Davis broke his own school record in the men's discus with a mark of 58.41m (191-8) to take the Big West title this season. Isaiah Butler, another first-time NCAA qualifier, set a season-best mark in the discus of 56.77m (186-3) this season.Â
In the men's triple jump, senior Jay Louison-Roe qualifies for his second straight NCAA West First Round. Louison-Roe held the top mark in the Big West in the triple jump this season with his PR of 15.81m (51-10.5).Â
Senior Tylor Connelly is a first-time qualifier this season as he will compete in the men's hammer throw. Connelly took third place in the hammer at this season's Big West Championships while he posted a PR of 64.82m (212-8) earlier this season.Â
In sprints, James Crawford returns to the NCAA West First Round this season as he will make his third career regional appearance and second overall in the 100m. Crawford scored at the Big West Championships, taking fourth place with a time of 10.23.
Finally, sophomore Walter Pierce qualifies for his first NCAA West First Round in the 400m. Pierce was the runner up in the event at the Big West Championships while he posted a personal-best time of 46.11 earlier this season.Â
