Griffiths Shatters CSUN Hammer Record at UCR Spring Classic

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -Â Monique Griffiths' school record highlighted the CSUN Matadors track & field squad at the UCR Spring Classic in Riverside.
In the team standings, the Matador women (148) finished a close second behind Cornell (152). A total of eight teams competed on the women's side. Competing in select events, the CSUN men were fifth with 78 points.
Griffiths, a junior, won the hammer throw by shattering the CSUN school record with a best of 200-6.25 (61.12). Griffiths' record throw came on her second attempt as she won by nearly four meters. She broke Christina Tolson's previous record (196-9) which stood since 1998.
Also cracking the CSUN record books was Mariah Counts who posted the third-best discus mark in school history (53.43). Counts was also second in the shop put with a best of 14.41.
On the track, Marie Veale won the 100 meters in 11.70 followed by teammates Lexis Lambert (11.87) and Le'Shel Vines (11.96). Veale also won the 100 meter hurdles as she clocked a time of 14.09 which edged Olympia Jewett's 14.37.
Lambert finished second in the 200 meters in 24.05 and ran the third leg of the 4x100 relay that finished second in 45.70.
Other noteworthy for the women in the field events; Ronisha Vallery won the long jump with a best of 5.82 meters ahead of Jewett who was third at 5.41.
On the track for the men, Jordan Taylor won the 100 meters in 10.53 with Kiyosji Johnson second in 10.90. Carl Horsley won the 200 meters in 21.38 and also anchored the CSUN 4x100 relay that won in 41.15. Jared Cape, Taylor and Isaiah Cantu rounded out the Matador 4x100 quartet.
In the field events, Zach Rosales won the shot put at 16.93m while Cameron Van Dieren was second in the pole vault with a top height of 4.80. Evan Arnott was third in the discus at 48.81 and Danny Jones was fourth in the shot at 15.42.
