Matadors Conclude Season at NCAA West Regional

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The CSUN men's and women's cross country teams completed the 2016 season Friday at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championship at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento.

The Matador women finished 32nd out of 35 competing teams while the men placed 29th.

Leading the way for the CSUN women was Rachel Naumann who finished 109th on the 6k course in a time of 21:44.1. Katie Alvarenga was next as she finished 187th in a time of 22:48.7 followed by Rachael Duriez (192nd, 22:56.3), Jasmine Vasquez (218th, 23:51.6) and Cynthia Martinez (224th, 24:16.2).

As a team, the Matador women clocked an average time of 23:08 and compiled 906 points.

In the men's 10k, CSUN was led by Michael Merchan who finished 134th in a time of 32:32.3. Charlie Nettle placed 165th in a time of 33:26.8, Manuel Vargas was 170th in 33:36.2, Mario Ramirez was 180th in 34:01.6 and Ricardo Garcia was 182nd in 34:09.1.

As a team, the Matadors posted 822 points while running an average time of 33:34.
