NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (6-6) closes out the 2016 calendar year with a pair of non-conference games. On Thursday, Dec. 29, the Matadors head to Seattle for the second time in three weeks when they face Seattle University at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for the contest with the Redhawks. CSUN then returns to the San Fernando Valley to host the University of Pennsylvania on New Year's Eve in a 4 p.m. contest that features free admission for all fans. Mark Roberts will be on the call for the action on the CSUN Sports Network and the live stats, video and audio links will be available for the first meeting ever between CSUN and Penn in women's basketball.Â
Before the Christmas break, CSUN split a pair of non-conference games. In a 73-61 victory over Saint Mary's, junior Serafina Maulupe scored a carer-high 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and Channon Fluker added her sixth double-double of the season as the Matadors posted their first win over the Gaels since 1981.Â
Two days later, CSUN could not protect The Matadome from Southern Utah as the Thunderbirds came away with a 77-71 victory. Fluker posted her second double-double of the week and seventh of the season in the defeat.Â
This week, CSUN closes out the non-conference season looking to match or exceed their entire win total (seven games) from a year ago. Standing in their path are a pair of talented squads that each feature a potent one-two punch.Â
Seattle University is 3-11 overall and led by a pair of seniors, Kaylee Best and Alexis Montgomery, who have combined to score 51 percent of the team's points. Best leads the squad with 36 3-pointers while Montgomery is Seattle's top rebounder. Both Seattle and its opponents average over 17 turnovers and eight steals per game.
Penn comes to CSUN for a New Year's Eve matinée that is free for all fans. Michelle Nwokedi and Sydney Slipanovich both average a double-double on the season and have accounted for over half the team's rebounds. The Quakers average over seven 3-pointers and steals per game through eight contests.
