CSUN Matches Win Total from All of Last Season with 7th Victory
SEATTLE, Wash. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (7-6) defeated Seattle University 68-64 Thursday evening in a non-conference game at the Connolly Complex. Sophomore Channon Fluker posted her third-straight double-double with 20 points and 19 rebounds while junior Tessa Boagni recorded her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.Â
Leading comfortably for most of the game, the Matadors had to hold on for the victory as the Redhawks tried to mount a rally. Jacinta Beckley connected on a 3-pointer to tie the game 61-61 with just over a minute to play. On the ensuing possession, Fluker was fouled and hit both free throws and then more free throws from Serafina Maulupe and Boagni sealed the victory for the Matadors.Â
Fluker was dominant on the interior all night. She tied a career high with the 19 rebounds for the third time this season and 13 of her boards came on the defensive glass. For the season, Fluker is averaging 16.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.Â
In addition to her second double-double of the season, Boagni had a big block with 35 seconds left to help clinch the victory. She went 5-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line and tied a career high with the three rejections.Â
Maulupe knocked down three 3-pointers and hit all four of her free throws to finish with 13 points. She added four rebounds and two steals in the win.Â
Eliza Matthews also had a strong game for CSUN, missing a double-double by one point. She finished with nine points and tied a career-high with 11 rebounds for the second-straight game.Â
CSUN overcame 20 turnovers in the win, shooting 36.4 percent (24-of-66) from the field and 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the free throw line. Seattle finished at 29.9 percent (23-of-77) from the field and 78.9 percent (15-of-19) from the free throw line. The Matadors finished with 60 rebounds in the contest, two shy of tying a program Division I record.Â
Alexis Montgomery scored a game-high 25 points for Seattle while Beckley finished with 16 points before fouling out of the game.Â
With seven victories this season, CSUN has already matched its win total from the entire 2015-16 season.Â
CSUN returns to action on New Year's Eve, hosting the University of Pennsylvania at The Matadome. Tip off is slated for 4 p.m. and all fans will receive free admission to the contest.Â
