Junior Serafina Maulupe Ties Career High with Five 3-pointers
SEATTLE, Wash. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (4-5) lost 101-44 to No. 11 Washington Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Alaska Airlines Arena. Junior Serafina Maulupe tied a career high with five 3-pointers and led the Matadors with 15 points, but the Huskies proved too much on the offensive end of the floor.Â
The first half was some tough sledding for CSUN on a frigid night in the Pacific Northwest. The Matadors shot just 6-of-29 from the field (20.7 percent) and 1-of-9 from 3-point range (11.1 percent) and as a result, trailed 49-15 at halftime. Channon Fluker had seven points, four rebounds and two steals in the opening 20 minutes.Â
The third quarter continued much like the first half as Washington out-scored CSUN 33-10 in the period. In the fourth, CSUN fought back and the final period was a statistical tie 19-19 between the two teams.Â
Still, Washington scored at will throughout the night and finished 37-of-71 (52.1 percent) from the field and 11-of-29 (37.9 percent) from 3-point range. Kelsey Plum led five Huskies in double-figures with a game-high 30 points. CSUN finished at 23.5 percent (16-of-68) from the field for the game.Â
Maulupe matched her CSUN career high with the season-high five treys. She added three rebounds and two steals in 29 minutes of work and has a team-best 24 3-pointers on the year.Â
Fluker came off the bench to post nine points, six rebounds and two steals. Cheyenne Allen had a game-high six assists, a season-high nine rebounds and four points off the bench.Â
The Matadors pulled down 15 offensive rebounds and finished with 40 boards as a team. Lauren Shymkewicz had a career-high eight rebounds to go with four points and a block in her first career start. The Matador bench also finished with 22 points, out-scoring the Huskies' reserves by three for the game.Â
CSUN continues on the road for its next two games, traveling to Weber State on Friday, Dec. 9 for a 7 p.m. contest. After a break for final exams, the Matadors travel to Saint Mary's for a 6:30 p.m. game on Dec. 19 before returning to the San Fernando Valley for a Dec. 21 meeting with Southern Utah.Â
