Mickey Hsu, Mari Taslagyan Win Singles Matches for CSUN
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team (2-5) lost 5-2 to Santa Clara Thursday afternoon at Matador Tennis Complex. Juniors Mickey Hsu and Mari Taslagyan scored singles victories for the Matadors, but the Broncos won the doubles point and four singles matches to clinch the victory.Â
Hsu improved to 3-3 on the year with her three-set victory in the top singles draw. She won the first set in a tiebreaker and then took a 10-5 decision in the third set after the match's final results had already been determined.Â
At the No.6 draw, Taslagyan won her third-straight singles match and fourth in the past five dual matches. She posted a 6-2, 6-2 decision and is now 4-3 on the season.Â
Taslagyan and Kiryang Kim also teamed up to post a 6-2 decision in their No. 3 doubles draw. The tandem is now 4-1 on the year and has won three-straight doubles matches.Â
Unfortunately, the Broncos won the top and third doubles matches to take an early advantage. In singles play, Santa Clara won in straight sets in the second, third and fifth draw and pulled out a three-set victory against Kristen Poei in the No. 4 match.Â
The Matadors return to action on Sunday, Feb. 21 with a non-conference match against Cal State Stanislaus. First serve from Matador Tennis Complex is slated for 11 a.m.Â
