Matadors Remain Sixth at Big West Championship

NORTHRIDGE, CA - Despite posting a two shot improvement from round one to round two, the CSUN women's golf team remained sixth after 36 holes of the Big West Championship Monday at The Bay Course in Kapalua, Hawai'i.
After posting a team round of 318 on Sunday, the Matadors wound up at 316 on Monday and head into Tuesday's final round 10 shots out of the top five.
A second round nine-over 81 dropped junior Cesilie Hagen from seventh into a tie for 14th at 12-over 156. Freshman Cake Phuchanbanchob made the biggest leap of any CSUN player as her three-over 75 on Monday vaulted her into a tie for 18th at 14-over 158.
Senior Arinda Bhanaraksa posted a three shot improvement from round one to round two (81-78) but only moved up one spot on the leaderboard as she is currently tied for 21st at 15-over 159. Freshman Ysabel Tran had one of two 82's by the Matadors on Monday as she slipped from the top 20 into a tie for 25th at 17-over 161.
Sophomore Shenna DeLeon rounded out the CSUN scoring as she also posted a 10-over 82 and is tied for 30th at 21-over 165.
Cal Poly continues to hold the team lead at 615, three shots better UC Riverside (618). Individually, Long Beach State's Kassidy Teare took over the lead after a second round one-over 73 moved her into first at three-over 147.
CSUN will tee off the final round of the championship Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m.
