NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (8-10) returns home to the San Fernando Valley to host the Cal Poly Mustangs on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. in The Matadome. The contest will feature live video, audio and stats with links available on the women's basketball schedule page at GoMatadors.com. Mark Roberts will be calling all the action on the CSUN Sports Network.Â
Last week, CSUN dropped a pair of road contests in conference action. At UC Irvine, the Matadors suffered a 25-point loss to the Anteaters after a slow start to the game set them back. Freshman Lauren Shymkewicz scored a career-high 12 points in the contest while sophomore Channon Fluker added 10 points and 12 rebounds.Â
Three days later, a long scoreless stretch in the fourth period snuffed out CSUN's chances for a win at UC Davis. Fluker led the Matadors with 19 points and seven rebounds while junior Serafina Maulupe finished with 14 points and three 3-pointers.Â
This week brings Cal Poly to The Matadome as the two teams wrap-up their season series just three weeks into the league calendar. Like CSUN, the Mustangs are on a three-game losing streak and their last win came in a 79-68 decision over the Matadors on Jan. 14. Since then, they have lost to UC Riverside, Long Beach State and Hawai'i.Â
The Mustangs feature a talented trio of players led by twin sisters Dynn and Lynn Leaupepe. At 2-3 in the Big West, the sisters have combined to average over 37 points and 12 rebounds per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field. Hannah Gilbert, a 6-3 senior, is second on the team in scoring and rebounding for the season.
