Matadors Face Gauchos in Only Contest This Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (8-11, 1-4 Big West) hosts UC Santa Barbara Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in The Matadome. The game will feature live stats, live audio and live video via Big West TV and the CSUN Sports Network with Mark Roberts calling all the action. Last week, the Matadors suffered a seven-point loss at home to Cal Poly. Junior Serafina Maulupe finished with a career-high 25 points, including a career-best 11 free throws, in defeat to raise her season scoring average to 12.3 points per game. Sophomore Channon Fluker recorded her league-leading 11th double-double of the season, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with five blocked shots.Â
Fluker continues to lead the Big West in rebounding and blocked shots while Maulupe is second in the Big West with 47 3-pointers on the season. She needs just two more to move into the CSUN single-season record book and now has 100 treys for her career, including her time at Virginia Tech.Â
This week, CSUN faces a UC Santa Barbara squad on a four-game winning streak. The Gauchos have knocked off Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside, Long Beach State and Hawai'i after suffering a narrow loss to Cal Poly in its league opener.
UCSB features a trio of players averaging in double-figures and is shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from 3-point range as a team. Opponents have shot 42.5 percent from the field and 28.7 percent from 3-point range on the season.
