2/18/2017 9:43:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Channon Fluker Scores Season-High 33 Points in Victory
HONOLULU --- Sophomore Channon Fluker scored a season-high 33 points and tied a career high with 15 field goals to help lead the CSUN women's basketball team (15-11, 8-4 Big West) to a 60-49 victory over Hawai'i Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Junior Serafina Maulupe added 13 points and CSUN head coach Jason Flowers recorded his 100th career victory as the Matadors won in Hawai'i for the first time in program history.Â
Fluker was nearly unstoppable Saturday, finishing 15-of-19 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. With 189 field goals on the season, Fluker is tied for sixth in program history for a single season. Fluker scored 20 points in the second half and she added five rebounds and five blocked shots in the victory. With 98 blocks in her CSUN career, Fluker has moved into fifth in program history.Â
Maulupe finished 5-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from 3-point range in 36 minutes of work. She now has 69 3-pointers on the season, the third-most in program history for a single season. With 106 treys in her Matador career, Maulupe already ranks eighth in program history.Â
The second half saw CSUN come out firing on all cylinders. Trailing 29-24 at the half, the Matadors scored the 13 points of the third quarter to build a 37-29 lead. Hayley Tanabe connected on a field goal before the period ended to give CSUN a 45-38 advantage after 30 minutes of work.Â
In the fourth, Hawai'i scored the opening bucket of the period to cut the lead to five (45-40). From there, the Matadors got 3-pointers from Maulupe, Tanabe and Emily Cole to put the game away.Â
CSUN's first half hinged on whether Fluker was on the floor. When she was, Hawai'i had no answer for the sophomore and she posted 13 points in the first quarter. However, she picked up her second foul about 90 seconds into the second quarter and had to sit for the majority of the period. The Rainbow Wahine took full advantage and outscored the Matadors 14-8 in the frame.Â
For the game, CSUN shot 50 percent (25-of-50) from the field and 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3-point range. Although CSUN got out-rebounded, 35-28, the Matadors finished with 34 points in the paint. The Matadors committed only nine turnovers in the game and scored 16 points off 11 Rainbow Wahine miscues.Â
Winners of seven-straight games, the Matadors remain on the road for their next game when they travel to Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 23. Tip-off from Titan Gym is slated for 7 p.m. Two days later, CSUN hosts UC Riverside at The Matadome for a 2 p.m. contest.Â
