NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (17-13) face the University of Hawai'i in a Big West Tournament Quarterfinal contest at Walter Pyramid on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at 6 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN3 and Mark Roberts will be calling all the action on the CSUN Sports Network with links for live stats, audio and video for the contest available on the women's basketball schedule page of GoMatadors.com. The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to Friday's Semifinals at Honda Center in Anaheim with a time and opponent still to be determined.Â
Last week, CSUN fell twice to finish the conference season with a 10-6 record. Although the Matadors saw their nine-game winning streak snapped, they doubled their conference victories from a year ago and have 10 more wins than they posted all of last season.Â
Sophomore Channon Fluker was named Big West Conference Player of the Year on Mar. 6, becoming the second player in program history to receive the award. She currently leads the conference in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots and could be the first player to lead the league in all three categories since the 1990-91 season when all the games are played.Â
Eliza Matthews was named Big West Freshman of the Year, becoming the third player in program history to receive the award and CSUN's second-straight winner. She led all rookies in rebounding during the season and had four games with double-figure rebounds, including a career-high 14 in a New Year's Eve contest with Penn.Â
Junior Serafina Maulupe earned Second Team All-Big West honors after serving as one of the conference's top perimeter threats. She is second in the Big West with 79 3-pointers and 2.6 3-pointers per game. Â
Wednesday night, CSUN will face a talented Hawai'i squad that is coming off a wire-to-wire victory over Cal Poly on Tuesday night. The last time these two schools met in the Big West Tournament was in the 2015 Big West Championship, a game CSUN won.
