CSUN Women's Soccer (2-0-4) continues a four-game road trip with a pair of matches in the Pacific Northwest. The Matadors face Washington State on Friday evening at 7 p.m. followed by a Sunday afternoon match at Eastern Washington at 11:30 a.m. Both teams will provide live video for each match this weekend.Â
With two draws last week, the Matadors tied a school record by going unbeaten through their first six games, matching the mark set by the 2001 team (5-0-1). CSUNÂ rallied from a one-goal deficit at halftime to tie Fresno State last Thursday 1-1 and played to a scoreless draw at nationally-ranked Colorado on Sunday.Â
Senior Cynthia Sanchez netted her 19th career goal and second of the season to even the match with the Bulldogs in the second half. The goal tied Sanchez with Erin Broadwell (1998-01) for second place all time in the Matadors' career scoring list and moved her within three of Farryn Townley's (2006-10) record 22 goals. Senior Sylvia Trinh, who assisted Sanchez on goal, entered the school's all-time assist Top 10 list as she moved into a seventh-place tie with six other Matadors.Â
Against Colorado, senior goalkeeper Jovani McCaskill earned her 23rd career shutout and second on the year after collecting six saves. McCaskill made five saves after halftime including a stop in the first overtime period. Behind McCaskill, the trio of Lindsay Kutscher, Christina Nixon and Amanda Martin played the full 110 minutes and contributed to a season-high six blocked shots.Â
On the season, Favela leads the Matadors with three goals to go along with two assists, eight points and 19 shots. Fresh off scoring her second goal of the year, Sanchez is tops on the team with 21 shots with nine on goal. Trinh leads the Matadors with three assists this season.Â
After posting 110 minutes of scoreless play in net, McCaskill lowered her goals against average to 0.58. McCaskill has also racked up 20 saves while playing every minute between the posts. McCaskill is currently ranked fifth in the nation in minutes played (621:30) and 44th in GAA.Â
The Matadors have never faced Washington State in women's soccer. CSUN's last victory over a Pac-12 school came in a 3-1 win over Oregon State in 2013 and its last road win against a team from the conference came in a 3-1 triumph at Oregon in 1999.Â
CSUN has gone 2-1-1 against Eastern Washington all time with the teams' last meeting taking place in 2003. The Matadors are unbeaten in their last three meetings with the Eagles, which includes a 0-0 draw 14 seasons ago.Â
