CSUN Track Returns To New Mexico This Weekend

The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams return to the Albuquerque Convention Center this weekend when the Matadors enter the New Mexico Classic this weekend.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams return to the Albuquerque Convention Center this weekend when the Matadors enter the New Mexico Classic this weekend.

Friday's field events begin at 3 p.m. with the running events getting underway at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the field events starting at 9 a.m. The running events begin at 9:15 a.m. Links to the live stats and the paid video stream via FloTrack are available on GoMatadors.com.

In addition to CSUN, scheduled to compete are; Alabama (men's No. 6/women's No. 22), Arizona, Arkansas State, Ft. Lewis College, LSU, Mississippi, New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands, NM State, Sacramento State, Stephen F. Austin, UC Davis, Texas (women's No. 8/men's No. 14), UNLV, and UTEP.

CSUN recorded a productive stay at the UW Invitational last weekend in Seattle. On the men's side; Erick Loomis became the sixth CSUN competitor to surpass the 60-foot mark in the weight throw as he finished sixth with a toss of 60-0 1/4. Clint Meyer put up the third best mark in the shot put in school history when he threw the shot put 59-3 1/2. Meyer would come in seventh overall.

The men's distance medley relay team of Mario Ramirez, Brenden Scott, Charlie Nettles, and Michael Merchan turned in the fourth fastest time in school history as the quartet went 10:09.42. The Matadors finished sixth in the event. Manuel Vargas put up the third fastest time in school history in the 5000m. Vargas tallied at time of 15:07.39 as he came home 36th in a field of 54.

The CSUN women were led by Courtney Robinson. She turned in the fourth fastest 60m hurdle time in school history when she went :8.53 in the opening round of the event. Her time was the fastest of the session. Robinson went even faster, :8.52, in the second round to earn the fourth seed in the finals. Robinson again lowered her time, running :8.51 to place eighth overall. On day one of the UW Invitational, Robinson won her heat and finished 10th in the 200m with a time of :25.02.

The distance medley relay team of Katie Alvarenga, Kayla Pickens, Sonsoles Barba, and Jasmine Vasquez recorded the fourth fastest time in school history, 12:21.55, to earn 15th in the event.
