NORTHRIDGE, Calif.-- CSUN closes out non-conference women's basketball play with a matchup at No. 6/8 Stanford. Coverage on Pac-12.com begins at 2 p.m.
The Cardinal are ranked sixth in the AP Top 25 and eighth in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25. Stanford improved to 9-1 with a 62-55 victory at Buffalo Dec. 21.
Alanna Smith, the Cardinal's leading score (19.4) led Stanford at Buffalo with 30 points. Three other players; Kiana Williams (14.7), DiJonai Carrington (11.6), Lexie Hull (10.7) are averaging in double figures for the Cardinal.
This is the fourth time that CSUN (6-7) and Stanford are playing with the Cardinal leading the all-time series 3-0. Saturday's game will be the 30th time that the Matadors will face a nationally ranked opponent at the Division I level.
Channon Fluker tied a 22-year old conference record as she was named Big West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the 13th time Dec. 24.
The 6-foot-4 center tied New Mexico State's Anita Maxwell (1992-96) for the career Player of the Week record. Fluker earned the honor after recording her 65th career double-double Dec. 19 in the Matadors' 76-40 victory over San José State.
Fluker scored the first eight points of the game en route to a double-double at halftime (12 points and 10 rebounds). She would finish the night shooting 10-of-12 from the field for a game high 20 points. The Pasadena native grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked seven shots, dished out four assists, and recorded a steal in 30 minutes of action.
Fluker's rim protection anchored a defense that held the Spartans to four points in the fourth quarter and 14-of-62 shooting for the game (22.6%), the second lowest by a CSUN team at the Division I level. The 40 points allowed are the fifth fewest by a Matador squad in the Division I era.
Serafina Maulupe enters the Stanford game 20 points away from becoming the 13th CSUN player to score at least 1,000 points in a Matador uniform. Maulupe, a Virginia Tech transfer, has scored 980 points as well as overcoming a knee injury that resulted in a sixth-year of eligibility in 2018-19.
