CSUN Opens 3-Dual Week Monday Against Cal State LA

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN women's tennis team opens the final month of the regular season with three duals this week.

The Matadors (4-8, 1-2 Big West) host Cal State LA Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Golden Eagles are 7-10 after losing 7-2 to the No. 1 team in Division II, Hawai'i Pacific last Friday. Luciana Di Laura leads Cal State LA in individual victories with 14 (14-6). Di Laura and Isabella Lopez have posted a team high 13 doubles victories (13-9). This is the 30th time that CSUN and the Golden Eagles are playing in a dual with the Matadors leading the all-time series 15-14.

CSUN hosts UC Riverside Saturday morning at 11 a.m. as the Matadors resume Big West play. The Highlanders host Westmont Wednesday in their first dual back after a two-week break. UCR is 3-14, 0-4 in Big West play. Three players; Karla Dulay, Sara Khattab, and Chloe Pham have each won two singles' matches to pace the team in the category. Tia Elpusan/Sara Khattab have won a team high eight doubles matches (8-6). CSUN and UC Riverside are playing for the 23rd time in dual competition with the Matadors leading the all-time series 21-1.

The week concludes Sunday when CSUN travels to UC Irvine for a 11 a.m. dual. The Anteaters are 8-11, 0-3 in Big West play. UCI's top singles' player by wins is Arianna Tilbury who has posted a 15-11 record this season. Flora Amiri and Yulin Chen have won a team best eight times in doubles play (8-9). UC Irvine leads the all-time series against UC Irvine 23-4.

CSUN defeated Westmont 8-1 last Wednesday. Emma Roenholt and Arpe Bagumyan opened the dual with an 8-1 victory over Tatem Phillips and Delaney Roche at No. 3 doubles. The Matadors' No. 2 tandem of Alicia Dinkelmeyer and Mari Taslagyan defeated Isabel Lee and Zarina Huber 8-3 to make it 2-0. Monika Van de Vondel and Skyla Alcon closed out the doubles portion of the meet with an 8-5 victory against Cade Pierson and Taylor Cheung-Damonte.Â
Westmont (7-6) got on the board at No. 1 singles with Van de Vondel was forced to retire due to an injury against Lee. Bagumyan earned a straight sets victory (6-1, 6-2) at No. 6 against Huber. Â Dinkelmeyer, who was named Big West Conference Singles Player of the Week earlier in the day, clinched the dual when she defeated Pierson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. It was Dinkelmeyer's sixth straight singles' win and she is now 7-1 this Spring.
Skyla Alcon earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Taslagyan rallied from one set down at No. 5 to post the win against Cheung-Damonte. Taslagyan won 6-1 in the second set. In the third set, Taslagyan came away with a 14-12 decision. Roenholt also went to three sets at No. 4 singles, and she also earned a win against Roche (4-6, 6-1, 10-3).Â
