CSUN Falls 4-0 At UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—UC Santa Barbara defeated CSUN 4-0 in Big West Conference women's tennis action Friday afternoon.

Amanda Atansson and Stephanie Yamada defeated Emma Roenholt and Arpe Bagumyan 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to open the dual. With Alicia Dinkelmeyer and Mari Taslagyan leading at No. 2 doubles 4-3, UCSB clinched the doubles' point when Palina Dubavets and Natalie Da Silveria defeated Moniak Van de Vondel and Skyla Alcon 6-1. Dubavets and Da Silveria entered the match ranked 42nd in the current ITA national poll.

Yamada handed Taslagyan a 6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 5 to begin singles play. Dubavets defeated Van de Vondel 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 before Amit Lev Ari clinched the dual for UCSB when she defeated Roenholt 6-3, 6-4.

When the dual was clinched by the Gauchos (10-12, 6-1 Big West), CSUN was leading on the remaining singles courts. Dinkelmeyer was up 6-3 and was tied 5-5 with Da Silveria at No. 2. Alcon split the first two sets against Atanasson and was leading 2-1 in the third in the No. 3 singles match. Scout Shutter was leading Lise Sentenac 6-4, 3-1 at No. 6 when the dual was ended.

"I'm proud of how we competed today," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "When the match was stopped, we were leading on three courts."

The Matadors (7-10, 3-4 Big West) conclude the regular season Sunday morning at 11 a.m. when CSUN hosts Hawai'i (9-6, 5-2 Big West).
