CSUN Faces Cal State Fullerton In BWC Quarterfinals

Big West Conference Tournament Bracket
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN heads to the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Championship this week. The Matadors (7-11, 3-5 BWC) are the sixth seed and will take on the third seed, Cal State Fullerton, Friday at 11 a.m. The tournament will be played in Indian Wells at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

UC Santa Barbara won the regular season title with a 7-1 league record (11-12 overall) and will play the winner of Thursday's 8/9 matchup between UC Irvine (7-15, 1-7) and UC Riverside (5-18, 0-9) on Friday at 9 a.m.

Cal State Fullerton (18-5, 6-2), UC Davis (15-6, 6-2), and Hawai'i (10-6, 6-2) tied for second with the Aggies earning the second seed via tiebreaker. UC Davis plays the seventh seed, Cal Poly (6-13, 2-6) on FridayFri 11 a.m. Hawai'i is the fourth seed and will play the fifth Long Beach State (11-9, 5-3) Friday at 9 a.m.

The semifinals are set for Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the finals scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

This is the third year in a row in which the Matadors and the Titans are playing the Big West quarterfinals. In 2016, CSUN defeated Cal State Fullerton 4-3. In 2017, the Titans defeated the Matadors 4-3 to advance to the semifinals. Cal State Fullerton defeated CSUN 4-0 Feb. 16 in Fullerton. Genevieve Zeidan leads the Titans in singles victories with 28 (28-6). Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin are 24-6 in doubles to pace Cal State Fullerton. The Matadors lead the all-time series 26-8. Â

CSUN dropped a pair of duals to UC Santa Barbara (4-0) and Hawai'i (7-0) to end the regular season last weekend. Alicia Dinkelmeyer saw her 10-match singles winning streak halted against Hawai'i. She remains as the team leader in singles wins with 10 (10-2). Skyla Alcon and Monika Van de Vondel are a CSUN best 9-5 in doubles this season.
