CSUN Track Heads To NCAA Regionals This Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams are getting ready to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I West Regional this weekend at Sacramento State.Â

The Matadors will have a Big West high 16 entries in the meet. 48 competitors in each event will attempt to make it to the top 12 of the event to advance to the June 6-9 NCAA Division I Championships. The national championships will be hosted by the University of Oregon.

MEN
T'Jari Packard qualified for the 100m dash with a time of :10.41 that was recorded during the preliminaries of the Big West Championships. His performance is the ninth best in school history and is the 37th fastest in the West Region. The first round of the 100m will be run Thursday May 24 at 6:30 p.m. The quarterfinals will be held Friday May 25 at 6 p.m.

Joshua Turner qualified for the West Regionals in the 110m hurdles. He ran :14.20 during the preliminary round of the Big West Championships. The time is the 10th quickest in school history and is the 43rd best in the West Region. The first round of the 110m hurdles will be Friday May 25 at 4:30 p.m. The quarterfinals of the race will be run on Saturday May 26 at 7:05 p.m.

Javari Fairclough posted a leap of 50-6 during the Big West Championships in the triple jump to advance to the West Regional. His performance is the 39th best this season in the region.

Matthew Arnold will join Fairclough in the triple jump. His 49-11 came during the Big West meet and is the 48th and final entry in the event. The triple jump will be conducted on Saturday May 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Clint Meyer's Big West winning toss of 60-1 3/4 earned Meyer a spot in the West Regional. The performance is the 24th longest in the region this season. The shot will be conducted on Saturday May 26 at 4:30 p.m.

Daniel Swarbrick qualified for the West Regional in the discus. His toss of 182-10 was recorded during the Apr. 19 Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and is the 27th best in the region.

Armon Hunter joins Swarbrick in the discus. He made it to regionals with a toss of 177-1 which was registered on Apr. 28 during the Desert Heat Classic. The discus is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Friday May 25.
Erick Loomis' school record 223-11 in the hammer throw that was recorded during the Apr. 14 Triton Invitational is the fifth longest in the West Region this season. Swarbrick's 197-8 hammer throw that was tallied on Apr. 19 during the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate is the 46th best in West Region. The hammer will be conducted on Thursday May 24 at 12 p.m.

WOMEN
Courtney Robinson will run the 100m hurdles. Robinson's school record time of :13.35 which was run during the preliminary round of the Big West Championships is the 20th fastest in West Region. The first round of the 100m hurdles is set for Friday May 25 at 5 p.m. with the quarterfinals coming on Saturday May 26 at 7:20 p.m.

Sydney Mosley's :13.58 (run during the Big West prelims) in the 100m hurdles is the 39th quickest and earned a spot in the race at regionals. The first round of the 100m hurdles will be run on Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. The quarterfinals will be run on Saturday May 26 at 5 p.m.

De'Andreah Young ran the fastest 400m hurdles time, :57.81 (timed at the Apr. 28 Desert Heat Classic), in the Big West this season. Her performance is the 12th best in the West Region this season.

Samantha Michell will also compete in the 400m hurdles. She ran :59.43 during the Big West Championships to advance to regionals as the 43rd fastest time in the region. Gardenia Centanaro qualified for the regionals in the pole vault in the 48th and final spot with a leap of 13-0 3/4 which occurred during the Apr. 28 Desert Heat Classic. The pole vault is set for Friday May 25 at 4:30 p.m.

Berry also qualified for regionals in the triple jump. She went 41-3 1/4 at the Big West Championships. The seventh best performance in school history is the 43rd best in the West Region this season. The triple jump will be conducted on Saturday May 26 at 4:30 p.m.

Brandy Williams earned a regional spot in the shot put. She threw 52-6 (the fifth longest in school history) during the Mar. 24 Northridge Invitational for the 23rd longest shot put throw in the West Region.

Jasmine Pharms is the final CSUN competitor to make the West Regionals. Pharms threw the shot 50-0 1/2 (the 10th best in school history) during the Big West Championships. The shot will be held Thursday May 24 at 4:30 p.m.

"We are happy and excited to have such a quality group of men and women competing in the NCAA Regionals," said CSUN interim head coach Lawrence Johnson. "We have a great mix of first time regional competitors and season regional competitors. We know that we have our work cut out for us, but we will be prepared."
