Matadors Fall to Long Beach State, 4-1

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The CSUN Women's Tennis team saw its two-dual winning streak come to an end, as Long Beach State (4-0, 2-0 Big West) defeated CSUN (3-2, 0-2 Big West) 4-1 on a rainy Friday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center.
The 49ers opened the contest by taking a highly contested doubles point. Long Beach's No. 1 doubles team of Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer defeated CSUN's Monika Van de Vondel and Jolene Coetzee 6-2.
Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda then went back and forth with Skyla Alcon and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso in a battle where CSUN led during the match, but ultimately fell 7-5.
Singles began with the Beach winning at No. 3 when Munoz when defeated Alcon 6-2, 6-1. The decision ended Alcon's four-match winning streak to kick off the season.
Sibel Demirbaga picked up a point for the Matadors and extended her undefeated singles streak by taking care of Sadaf Sadeghvaziri 6-1, 6-3. She is now 5-0 in singles play to begin the season.
Rutkowaska defeated Van de Vondel at No.1 singles 6-3, 6-1.
Emma Roenholt would then fall in No.5 singles to Devarakonda 6-3, 6-3, wrapping up the win for LBSU.
Coetzee and Fraile Toboso were leading their respective matches before the dual was called for the 49ers.

"We need to capitalize on our opportunities against a good team like Long Beach State. Sibel [Demirbaga] had a great day. She showed showed maturity beyond her years, and an energy that is contagious. We need to continue to get better in believing in ourselves. Looking forward to coming out for a Big West match against UC Davis on Monday."
