No. 21 CSUN Ready for Challenge at Barbara Kalbus Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 21 CSUN Water Polo will take on multiple Top 10 teams this weekend at UC Irvine's Barbara Kalbus Invitational. The Matadors open up the invite Friday against No. 2 Stanford at 11:15 a.m. Scheduled to play twice on Saturday, CSUN will face either No. 7 UC Irvine or No. 10 Pacific to kick off day two of the event. The Matadors wrap up their stay at the tournament on Sunday with one more contest. Live stats will be available for the Matadors' match up with Stanford. The top nine teams in the country will compete at the event and all 16 teams in the event are ranked in the Top 20.
The Matadors are riding a four-match winning streak after earning a pair of wins in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday. CSUN defeated the host CLU 15-8 and the University of Toronto 11-8. The Matadors were led on the day by Tori Wilson, who had a total of six goals in total between both matches.
Junior Madasonne Butler collected six goals to go with a steal, an assist and four earned ejections in the two victories. Freshman Kylee Jansen saw her scoring streak come to an end versus the University of Toronto, but she is still second overall on the team with 15 goals scored on the season.
The Matadors are 0-7 all time against Stanford, looking for their very first win against the powerhouse water polo program. Their last meeting came on Feb 24 2017, with CSUN dropping the contest 16-5.
A Closer Look at Stanford
The second-ranked Cardinal are 7-0 this season with all wins coming against Top 20 teams. Stanford notched wins over Big West teams UC Davis and Long Beach State. Stanford's most impressive win came against No. 4 California, where it won 17-10
Stanford was a runner-up to National Champion USC in 2018. The leading scorers for the Cardinal include junior MaKenzie Fischer (35), Madison Stamen (18) and Sarah Klass (16). The Cardinal are outscoring their opponents 43-12 in the first quarter.
