First Place Finishes for CSUN Men and Women Highlight Long Beach Intercollegiate

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams grabbed five first place finishes and set seven personal records at the Long Beach Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State on Thursday.

"Today was a pretty productive day for us across the board. We excelled on the track and in the field. Immanuela Aliu led the women's team with two outstanding individual performances in the 100m and 200m dashes. Our women's 4x400m lowered our seasonal best by almost two seconds. Our men's team had a great start to today's competition by lowering their seasonal bests in the 4x100m relay. We got better as a team today. I am looking forward to preparing for our next challenge in Arizona."

THE OVERVIEW
- Both Matador squads had two first-place finishes.
- Freshman Immanuela Aliu (who entered the day ranked second in the Big West, 67th in West Region) set a new personal best by winning the 200m in a time of :23.81. Aliu also scored a new personal best and a second place finish in the 100m with a time of :11.65.
- The CSUN women grabbed their second first place finish in the women's 400m hurdles when De'Andreah Young won in a time of :58.90. Young is ranked first in the Big West and 16th in the West Region for the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.35
- In the 4x400 relay, the CSUN quartet of Young, Sydney Mosley, Lena Kandissounon and Brianna Gilchrist set a new personal best with a time of 3:40.09 which earned the team a second-place showing.
- On the men's side, junior Matthew Arnold scored CSUN's third first place finish of the day when he won the triple jump with a leap of 14.82m. Arnold is ranked ninth in the Big West, and 30th in the West Region in the event. Freshman Mathieu Tshani followed right behind in second with a distance of 14.55m.
- Clint Meyer who is currently ranked first in the Big West and 18th in the West Region in shot put at 18.90, scored a first place finish with a distance of 18.84m.He is currently second all time in school history
- Parker Caston Jr set CSUN's best 400m performance of the 2019 outdoor campaign by winning the race in a time of :47.87. That time is good enough for seventh in the Big West.
- Bashiru Abdullahi finished second in the 110m hurdles, while setting a personal best by running :13.87, the third quickest showing in school history. Abdullahi is ranked first in the Big West for the event, and 11th in the West Region. Antonio Garcia placed fifth in a personal best of :14.08.
