CSUN Track & Field Completes Final Tune-Ups Before Big West Championships

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---The CSUN Track & Field teams wrapped up a two-meet weekend on Saturday as the Matadors completed the final preparations before next week's Big West Championships.
Matador throwers competed at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Tune-Up on Friday, highlighted by two first-place finishes on the women's team and three personal-bests on the men's side. CSUN also took part in Azusa Pacific's Franson Last Chance from Friday to Saturday with three all-time marks set among Matador men's sprinters.Â
TITAN TUNE-UP RESULTS
Senior Amani Britton recorded a PR in the women's shot put, taking first place with her throw of 14.43m (47-4.25). Katherine Shipp-Davis followed in second place in the competition, posting a toss of 14.05m (46-1.25).Â
Shipp-Davis, a senior, was the top Matador thrower in the women's discus as she claimed first place with a mark of 53.06m (174-1). Out of the 13-athlete field, Britton was fifth in the event at 48.12m (157-10) and Treasure Brown took eighth place at 43.59m (143-0).Â
On the men's side, Elijah Ignacio was the top collegiate athlete and the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 54.88m (180-0). Santiago Cerda set a PR in the event, finishing with a toss of 49.13m (161-2) to finish eighth overall.
Francisco Isiordia established a new PR in the shot put, reaching 16.10m (52-10) to finish fifth overall while Isaiah Butler took seventh place at 15.50m (50-10.25). In the hammer throw, Isiordia also set a new personal best with his throw of 55.51m (182-1) for an eighth-place finish.Â
FRANSON LAST CHANCE RESULTS
It would be a banner meet for senior James Crawford who set back-to-back personal-bests in the men's 100m. In the prelim round on Friday, Crawford established a PR of 10.26, qualifying for the final round. Crawford would top that time in the finals on Saturday, clocking in at 10.25 to finish third in the field. With that 10.25 time, Crawford posted the third-best 100m performance in school history.Â
Walter Pierce also made Matador history on Saturday in the men's 400m where he set a new PR of 46.11 to take third overall in the competition. With the new PR, Pierce registered the second-best 400m performance in school history.Â
CSUN men's 4x400m relay team would crack the school's all-time top-10 list as Wyatt Wiggins, Jr., Jayden Smith, Terence Williams and Walter Pierce notched the seventh-best time in Matador history at 3:10.44. That time was good enough for second overall in the field. Â
On the women's side, the quartet of Trystin Mitchell, Makyla Jones, Brianna Wells and Serena Grace competed in the 4x400m relay race. The group finished second in the field, posting a season-best time of 3:40.85.Â

The Matador track & field teams head to Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track to compete in the 2026 Big West Championships. The two-day championship meet is set for May 15-16.Â
