CSUN's Davis and Mosley Break Discus Records at Steve Scott Invitational

IRVINE, Calif.---CSUN Track & Field's Summer Mosley and Kyriaun Davis broke the program's all-time discus records as the Matadors completed a two-day stay at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational on Saturday. Across the men's and women's track & field teams, Matador athletes set nearly 20 personal records at the meet.Â
TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMANCES
Just two weeks removed from breaking the Matadors' all-time women's discus record, Mosley would shatter her own top mark with a first-place throw of 57.76m (189-6) on Saturday. Her record-breaking toss came on her sixth and final attempt.
Right behind Mosley in the discus was Katherine Shipp-Davis who set a PR of 53.66m (176-0), which ranks fifth-best in CSUN history. Also setting a new personal-best was Amani Britton with a toss of 49.12m (161-2) to finish sixth in the event while Treasure Brown was 14th with a mark of 44.43m (145-9).Â
Shipp-Davis led CSUN throwers in the shot put as she set a new PR of 14.91m (48-11) to place third overall. Britton followed in 11th place with her mark of 12.81m (42-0.5) and Brown was 15th at 12.50m (41-0.25).Â
In sprints, Serena Grace had a standout weekend, posting a season-best 100m time of 11.66 to finish second overall. Makyla Jones would set a PR of 11.74 in the 100m, finishing fifth while Hannah Bridge ran at 11.90 to place 11th and Amaya Rice clocked in at 12.08 to tie for 16th. In the 200m, Grace also was a runner-up, posting a time of 23.93 followed by Jones in fifth place at 24.31.Â
In jumping events, Ashleigh Porter took third in the high jump, establishing a new PR of 1.74m (5-8.5). Porter's mark ranks ninth-best in CSUN history. Naomi Sachs would take sixth place, setting a PR of 1.69m (5-6.5) and Jazmine Severo tied for eighth at 1.64m (5-4.5).Â
Chandler Smith led CSUN in the long jump, taking fifth place with a leap of 5.92m (19-5.25). Anna Negulic followed with a PR of 5.47m (17-11.5) to finish 10th and Danielle Irvin reached 5.17m (16-11.5) to place 18th.Â
In distance races, Ailani Valiente would also set a PR in the 1500m, taking fourth place with a time of 4:52.83. Savannah Ganter finished sixth overall in the 3000m-steeplechase, finishing at 10:59.54.Â
TOP MEN'S PERFORMANCES
Davis made Matador history in the men's discus, breaking CSUN's record that stood for 42 years, previously held by Rick Weyers (1984). Davis' record-breaking throw came on his first attempt on Saturday, reaching 57.63m (189-1) to take first place in the event.Â
Isaiah Butler also turned in an outstanding showing in the discus, taking third place with a mark of 56.77m (186-3). Butler's toss also reached the school's record book with the fourth-best mark in program history. Elijah Ignacio was fifth in the event at 55.06m (180-7), Santiago Cerda was 17th at 45.94m (150-8) and Tui Edwin was 20th at 44.42m (145-9).Â
In distance races, Camilo Torres represented CSUN in the 1500m invite, finishing as runner-up with a PR of 3:51.76. In the 800m, Raul Verges took fourth overall in a seven-athlete field with his time of 1:52.92. Elijah Stenberg ran in the 800m open, picking up a fourth-place finish at 1:56.39. In a separate 800m invite, Ja'Patrick Smith led the Matadors with a third-place finish at 1:55.53 and Darrick Jacob, Jr. followed in fourth place at 1:55.78.Â
In sprints, James Crawford took second place in the 200m with his time of 20.81. Also in the top-five, Wyatt Wiggins, Jr. finished fifth overall with his time of 21.19 followed by Daniel Harper in eighth place at 21.53.Â
Walter Pierce paced CSUN in the 400m dash, taking third overall with his time of 47.15. Jayden Smith finished seventh in the event, running at 49.32 while Terence Williams was 14th at 50.18 and Raul Verges was 19th at 51.97.Â
In jumps, Matthew Browner reached 1.94m (6-4.25) in the high jump to tie for sixth place. Tzu-Ting Chan set a PR in the long jump, taking eighth place at 7.17m (23-6.25) while Browner was ninth at 7.13m (23-4.75), Aiydan Bague was 11th at 7.07m (23-2.5) and Layne Buck was 12th at 7.04m (23-1.25) in the event.Â

"We are in a really good place right now. The team is competing well in all areas. The energy is good and the team is feeling confident. We still have a few things to clean up across the board before we get to the conference meet in two weeks, but we put together a great meet this weekend."

- The CSUN women's 4x100m team of Bridge, Rice, Jones and Grace competed on Saturday, taking fourth place with their time of 45.77.Â
- Brianna Wells was the top Matador sprinter in the women's 400m as she took ninth with a PR of 56.57. Trystin Mitchell was 10th in the event, clocking in at 56.74 while Kahlai Cruser finished 20th at 58.65.Â
- Cruser also represented CSUN in the women's 800m invite as she was ninth overall with a time of 2:26.61.Â
- Butler posted a PR in the men's hammer throw, taking sixth place with a mark of 57.23m (187-9). Francisco Isiordia was 12th in the event, throwing at 51.68m (169-6) while Cerda set a PR of 46.34m (152-0) to take 16th place.Â
- Omar Heredia competed in the men's 1500m open race, finishing seventh overall at 4:06.04 while Diego Rodriguez was eighth with his PR of 4:06.40. Ramiro Mateos also placed 10th in the competition, running at 4:09.02.Â
- Rodriguez participated in the men's 3000m-steeplechase, finishing seventh out of nine competitors with his time of 9:37.98. Heredia would set a PR of 9:51.64 to place eighth.Â
- Edwin paced the Matadors in the men's shot put, taking eighth overall with his toss of 16.46m (54-0). Davis finished tied for ninth in the event, throwing at 16.32m (53-6.5) while Ignacio was 11th at 15.93m (52-3.25), Cerda was 13th at 15.66 (51-4.5) and Isiordia was 15th at 15.61m (51-2.75).Â
