No.22 CSUN Drops Senior Day Contest to No.11 UCSB 19-8

 NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 22 CSUN (13-16, 0-4 BWC) fell 19-8 to No. 11 UC Santa Barbara (19-6, 2-1 BWC) on Water Polo's Senior Day Saturday afternoon. In its final home match of the campaign, CSUN was led by juniors Tori Wilson and Jennalyn Barthels, who scored half of the team's eight goals. Senior Lindsey Garcia, in her final home bout, notched the first goal of the game for the Matadors in the first quarter.
Garcia along with seniors Charissa Dorn and Daci Hughes were honored during the pre-game ceremonies before the match.
GAME BREAKDOWN
The Gauchos opened the game with back-to-back goals from Sarah Snyder, who leads the team in points. After falling down 2-0, Garcia notched a highlight goal as the four-year letterwinner from Los Angeles brought the crowd to its feet by netting her last goal at Matador Pool.
CSUN used the momentum from the Garcia goal as Wilson scored her 58th goal of the season to tie the game up at two apiece. Kate Coski netted a goal to take the lead for the Gauchos with a little over a minute to play in the first. Sarah Kreiser added on to the lead before the Matadors cut the advantage to one right before the horn sounded in the first as Ashlee Sellung made it a 4-3 match.
The Gauchos begun to pull away in the second, as UCSB scored five unanswered to begin the quarter. CSUN would stop the run on a penalty shot from Katia Andon-Mateos, her 31st goal of the season. UCSB would add another to make it 11-4 at the half.
Snyder would net her game-leading fourth goal with a shot to make it 12-4. Wilson added her second goal of the game when she cut the lead to seven at 12-5. UCSB would add three more unanswered goals to increase its lead to double-digits.
A goal by Barthels made it a 15-6 game, but a Caitlyn Snyder goal brought the lead back to ten at 16-6. A goal by Barthels, her 32nd of the season (third best on team) made it 16-7.
The game would slow in pace as the Gauchos picked up the 19-8 victory.
The Matadors would have four assists in the game with Andon-Mateos notching a pair to her name.
