AUSTIN, Tx -- Senior Erick Loomis and Freshman Bashiru Abdullahi ended their respective 2019 campaigns on day one of the 2019 Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday.
The school record holder in the event, Loomis finished his storied Matador career by finishing in 20th place in the men's hammer throw by posting a toss of 215-1 during his first attempt.
Abdullahi capped off an impressive freshman season by placing 17th in a time of :13.90 during the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles. The Big West 110m hurdles' champion, Abdullahi did not move to the semifinals as his time was not among the top 12 fastest to advance.
"I think Erick and Bashiru competed hard and they both had top-20 finishes. They didn't have their best performances, but we are proud of their efforts and the way they represented the Matadors!" said head coach Lawrence Johnson.
