HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams were scoreless at halftime. The Matadors outshot the Flyers 8-4 with Trejo recording six of those chances. Five of Trejo's attempts were on goal with Dayton goalie Federico Barrios making five saves.
- The match was delayed with 41:44 remaining in the second half due to weather.
- After a 45-minute hiatus, Trejo opened the scoring with his first of the season in the 55th minute. Julio Rubio picked up the assist on the play. Dayton tied the match at 70:18 on a Jonas Fjeldberg tally.
- Trejo put the Matadors back into the lead in the 73rd minute as converted a Giovanni Aguilar pass. The Flyers pushed towards CSUN. The pressure resulted in a corner kick in the 80th which resulted in a shot that went high.
- Dayton earned a corner in the 86th minute, resulting in a shot that was wide. After a UD threat was turned away, Johnny Rodriguez capped off the scoring with a goal with 41 seconds remaining in the second half. A Dayton red card with 30 seconds to go sealed the victory for CSUN.
- Trejo tied the school Division I record for most shots in a match with 10. Current CSUN women's soccer head coach Keith West (vs. Marshall, 9/29/95) and Danny Daniels (vs. Grand Canyon, 11/9/91) are the only other Matadors to reach double-digits in shots at the D-1 level for CSUN.
- The Matadors outshot the Flyers (1-1) 20-16, 12-4 on goal. Paul Lewis recorded three saves for the Matadors. Barrios recorded nine saves for Dayton.
- As a result of Ohio State defeating UIC In the other Sunday match, CSUN was declared the tournament champion with a 2-0 record.
- Three CSUN players were named to the All-Tournament team; Trejo, Rodriguez, and Samuel Salter.
- The Matadors are off to their first 2-0 start since 2013 when CSUN went 7-0 to begin that campaign.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH TERRY DAVILA
- "It was a solid team win against a tough opponent. Sunday games after a Friday night game are hard mentally and we persevered today!"
