CSUN Defeats Westmont In Tennis Dual Opener

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN opened the women's tennis dual season with a 7-0 victory over Westmont Saturday afternoon.
Emma Roenholt and Lisa-Marie Wurst opened doubles play with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 over Christine Hemry and Ana Negri. The Matadors secured the doubles' point when Jolene Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso handed Sidney Lowry and Rachael Jackson a 6-1 defeat at No. 1. Ekaterina Repina and Jacquie Tan completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 2 against Cade Pierson and Emily Peterson.
Singles' play began with a Wurst 6-0, 6-0, victory over Ava Verchimak at No. 6. Roenholt swept Hemry 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 before Fraile Toboso defeated Jackson 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. Tan secured the dual with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 2 slot against Peterson. Repina defeated Pierson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1. The dual came to an end as Coetzee swept Lowry 6-1, 6-4. The CSUN victory improved the Matadors to 16-0 against the Warriors.
"It was good to see us competing together and for each other," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "I am looking forward to improving every match."
CSUN (1-0) takes on Alabama (3-0) at San Diego State next Saturday. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
