"Tonight we simply had too many errors and didn't make plays when we needed to. We didn't play our best volleyball but we'll regroup and be ready for a tough Cal State Fullerton team tomorrow."
FIRST SET
After a Nevarez kill pulled the Matadors within 6-4, a 5-1 run by Long Beach State forced a CSUN timeout with the Matadors trailing 11-5. CSUN climbed back to within four points (15-11) following a Lauryn Anderson ace but four straight points by the Beach pushed the margin back to eight at 19-11. Trailing 24-16, the Matadors saved a pair of set points on a Klungel kill and a Beach hitting error but Long Beach converted its third chance to close out the opening set 25-18.
SECOND SET
The Matadors jumped out to a 3-1 lead and would extend the lead to 11-6 forcing a Beach timeout. CSUN maintained a six-point cushion (18-12) following kills by Nevarez and Abigail Macias before a Lexi McLeod kill gave the Matadors their largest lead of the set at 20-12. Long Beach would battle back to within five late in the set before Orshoff connected with a kill as the Matadors won by the identical 25-18 margin.
