CSUN Defeats UC Davis To Complete Perfect Week
3/28/2021 5:41:00 PM | Women's Tennis
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN completed a perfect 3-0 week Sunday afternoon when the Matadors defeated UC Davis 4-1 in a Big West Conference women's tennis dual.
The Aggies (4-7, 1-3 Big West) took the doubles point as Sara Tsukamoto and Lauren Ko (No. 1) and Shirley Hall and Michelle Zell (No. 2) won their respective matches by the identical 6-4 score.
Sasha Turchak tied the dual when she defeated Kristina Evloeva 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles match. Ana Fraile Toboso handed Zell a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at No. 4. Jacquie Tan defeated Olive Manunupau 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 to put CSUN in position to clinch the dual at No. 1 singles. Ekaterina Repina closed the dual out when she swept Tsukamoto 6-2, 6-2. With the dual clinched, the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches were left unfinished.
"This was a gut check win for us against a very, very well-coached team," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "Having Kat and Jacquie in the lineup and playing as well as they did, meant so much for us. This was our best doubles performance of the season so far, and we came up just short. Sasha set the tone again with an efficient win. Ana is back to playing high-level tennis, which speaks to her high work ethic and character."
The Matadors (4-2, 2-1 Big West) head back to the courts Thursday afternoon when CSUN hosts UC Irvine (1-6, 1-2 Big West) at 2 p.m.
