COACH SUSIE TERRUSAÂ SAID
"We are definitely getting better and the players are battling every point. When we were down in set three we fought back and tied it up. I saw improvement in every match this weekend which is what our goal has been throughout this preseason."
SET 1
With the score tied at 4-4 in the early stages of the match, a co-block from Anderson and McLeod propelled the Matadors on a 4-0 run which opened up an 8-4 lead. A Nevarez kill would give CSUN its largest lead of the set at 13-5 before a late 7-0 run extended the Matador lead to as many as 11 at 23-12. CSUN, which hit .207 in the set to Pacific's -.116, then took advantage of a pair of Tiger miscues over the final two points to seal the 25-14 win.
SET 2
The Tigers claimed the first four points of the set before the Matadors immediately answered with a 6-1 run to take a 6-5 lead. But Pacific put together a decisive 12-2 run over the next 14 points to open up a 17-8 advantage. An Anderson kill kept CSUN within six at 17-9 but the Matadors could pull no closer in dropping the set 25-15.
SET 3
The Tigers bolted out to an 8-1 lead in the third set before an Orshoff kill and a Bradford ace ended the run. After trailing by as many as eight points (12-4), the Matadors got a kill from Anderson that propelled CSUN on a 4-0 run that trimmed the deficit to 12-8. Following a Pacific timeout, Klungel was whistled for a setting error before claimed four of the next five points to pull within 14-12. Pacific pushed the lead back to three at 16-13 before the Matadors engineered a 5-2 run to knot the score at 18-18 on kills from McLeod and Waggoner. Another kill by Waggoner following a Tiger timeout gave CSUN its final lead at 19-18 as Pacific out-scored the Matadors 7-2 over the final nine points to take a 25-21 win.
SET 4
The final set turned out to be the tightest of the match as the two teams battled to a 12-12 tie. A Tiger hitting error followed by a block by Orshoff and Taylor Hunter gave the Matadors a 14-12 edge before Pacific went on a 7-1 run to re-take the lead 19-15. CSUN came back with a 6-1 run of its own, using a Pacific hitting error to take a 21-20 lead. Hunter's kill kept the Matadors in front at 23-22 before the Tigers claimed four of the final five points in a 26-24 win.
