CSUN Hits The Road For Games at UC Riverside & UC Davis

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Women's Basketball team (6-7, 2-1 Big West) hits the road this week for a pair of games. CSUN is at UC Riverside Thursday night with for a 6 p.m. start.

UC Riverside has had five of its past eight games canceled due to COVID protocols. The Highlanders were able to schedule game at Utah last Friday and fell 89-48 to the Utes. UCR is 3-6 overall, 0-2 in Big West play.

Keilanei Cooper is second in the Big West in scoring (16.2), and third in field goal shooting (44.2). Daphne Gnago is sixth in the league in rebounding (7.7) and blocked shots (0.9). This is the 66th meeting between CSUN and UC Riverside with the Matadors leading the all-time series 33-32.

The Matadors travel to UC Davis Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip. The Aggies are 6-6, 0-2 in Big West play after having a pair of games against CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly canceled last week due to COVID protocols. The Aggies arguably have the best non-conference victory in the Big West this season as UCD defeated No. 18/16 Oregon 64-57 in Eugene on Dec. 1.

Cierra Hall is second in the Big West in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9), fifth in scoring (13.1), rebounding (7.8), sixth in free throw shooting (73.8), and ninth in assists (3.3). Saturday is the 56th time that CSUN and UC Davis are playing women's basketball with the Aggies leading the all-time series 28-17.

Both games will be available on ESPN+ with links on GoMatadors.com. CSUN went 1-1 last week. The Matadors lost 65-50 to Cal State Fullerton Jan. 13. Jordyn Jackson led CSUN in scoring with 10 points.
The Matadors defeated Long Beach State 64-50 Jan. 15. Jackson paced the Matadors with 16 points. Amundsen recorded her first double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Kayanna Spriggs added a season-high 11 points. Sydney Woodley scored eight points, recorded seven steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Woodley made three consecutive steals at one point that led to six fast break points.

CSUN begins the week 93rd in Division I in turnovers forced per game (18.4). The Matadors are second in the Big West and 23rd in Division I in steals per game (11.3). The 150 steals that the Matadors have posted are 65th in Division I to begin the week.

Woodley begins the week 13th in Division I in steals per game (3.2). Woodley is 27th in Division I in steals (41). Woodley made seven steals against Cal State Fullerton Jan. 13 and again made seven steals against Long Beach State Jan. 15. Woodley's performances are the most in a game by a CSUN player since current Matador assistant coach Ashlee Guay made seven steals for CSUN against UC Davis on Feb. 16, 2013. Â
