COACH JEFF CAMPBELL SAID
"I thought we played a good match and some of the mistakes we made are easily fixable. Our passing was better again tonight and if we can serve a little tougher on Friday we'll give ourselves a better chance to win."
SET 1
The hosts jumped out to a 5-1 lead to open the match and led by five at 8-3 when Wetter's attack was stuffed by the Pepperdine block. The Waves lead swelled to eight (16-8) following the media timeout and the Matadors would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way. With Pepperdine holding set point at 24-15, Hobus' fourth kill of the set saved one set point before the Waves cashed in their next swing to take the set 25-16.
SET 2
Kills from Bustamante and Hobus gave the Matadors an early 7-4 lead before the hosts scored four straight to take an 8-7 lead. Wetter connected for a kill ay 9-9 giving CSUN a 10-9 edge when Pepperdine outscored the Matadors 7-2 over the next nine points to open up a 16-12 lead. Three straight CSUN points trimmed the lead to one before the Waves answered with a 3-0 run to again lead by four at 20-16. The Matadors would get within two at 20-18 following a Hobus kill and a Waves hitting error before Pepperdine pulled away down the stretch for the 25-21 win.Â

SET 3
Neither team would hold more than a two-point lead until Pepperdine put up a block on a Griffin Walters swing to lead 17-14. Trailing by four at 21-17, the Matadors took advantage of a pair of Pepperdine errors to pull within 21-19. Following a Waves timeout, the two teams traded points until 22-20 when the hosts claimed the final three points of the match to seal the 25-20 win.
