CSUN (10-17) will look to break a six-game losing streak on Saturday when the Matadors open Big West action against Cal Poly. The Matadors and the Mustangs (5-15) begin the series Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. with a single game. All three contests will be streamed on ESPN+.
GAME 1
- The Jackrabbits defeated the Matadors 5-1 to begin the day's play.
- A CSUN error in each of the first two innings resulted in four unearned South Dakota State runs and a 5-0 overall lead for the Jackrabbits after an inning and-a-half. Sydney Freijanes' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second plated Sami Garcia to get the Matadors on the board.
- CSUN put runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the third. Tori Kniesche pitched out of the jam by getting Kennedi Sorensen to foul out to left field.
- Stranded CSUN runners in the fifth and the seventh could not advance past first base.
- Kniesche tossed a four-hitter for the Jackrabbits. She struck out eight and walked one. Mikayla Carman recorded two (2-for-2) of the CSUN hits.
- Peyton Daugherty and Emma Osmundson combined for four (two each) of the seven hits for South Dakota State. CSUN starter Kenedee Jamerson went the distance. She struck out two and walked one.
- Behind Grace Glanzer's one-hitter, South Dakota State (17-7) handed CSUN a 6-0 defeat to conclude the day. Glanzer allowed only two over the minimum (a Carman hit and a Matador reaching on an error). Glanzer struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
- A CSUN error prolonged the South Dakota State first. SDSU took advantage as Lindsey Culver's two-out two-RBI triple gave the Jackrabbits the early lead.
- CSUN's second error of the game extended the top of the fifth inning. Brooke Dumont's two-out two-RBI double in the top of the fifth pushed the lead to 4-0 before Jocelyn Carrillo added an RBI single to make it 5-0. The Jacks added one run in the sixth. Cylie Halvorson and Rozelyn Carrillo both recorded two hits for South Dakota State which had 13 in the game.
