- Cal Poly (5-18, 0-3 Big West) took the lead in the top of the second on Hailey Prahm's two-RBI single. Mikayla Carman's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second cut the Mustangs' advantage in half.
- Maddie Amos' one-out home run in the top of the third extended the advantage to 3-1. Despite loading the bases in the bottom of the third, the Matadors could only come away with one run on Kaylee Escutia's sacrifice fly.
- Vinessa Nunez tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when she doubled in Escutia with two outs. Cal Poly threatened in the top of the sixth. The Mustangs loaded the bases with one out when Prahm grounded into a 4-2 fielder's choice. Pinch-hitter Caroline Allman popped out to second to end the inning.
- Carman led off the bottom of the sixth with her third hit of the day, an opposite-field single to rightfield. Allman fielded Alexis Lemus' bunt at third. However, she overthrew the first baseman allowing Carman to reach third.
- With one out, Kennedi Sorensen hit a grounder to short. Amos stepped on the bag at second to retire Lemus but was late on the throw down to first, allowing Carman to score the go-ahead run.
- Amos singled through the left side with two outs in the top of the seventh. The Mustangs' clean-up hitter, Juju Sargent, flew out to left to end the game.
- Carman was 3-for-3 on the day, recording half of the six CSUN hits. Amos and Xiara Diaz both posted two hits for Cal Poly. Allie Gardiner relieved Kenedee Jamerson to start the third inning, and she pitched the rest of the way. Gardiner struck out three and did not walk a batter to improve to 4-2.
- CSUN is off to its first 3-0 start in Big West play since 2015, when the Matadors swept the Mustangs to begin league competition. It is only the fifth time since CSUN joined the Big West in softball in 1997 that the Matadors began conference action 3-0.
