CSUN Hosts UC Riverside on Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Women's Tennis team hosts UC Riverside in a Big West dual Saturday morning. The first serve is 11 a.m.
The Highlanders (3-10, 0-5 Big West) have lost five of their past six starts, defeating Division II Chaminade 4-0 on Mar. 25 in Honolulu during the stretch. Four UCR players have won twice in singles. Natalie Shamma and Serina Saltzen have posted the top doubles record, 2-2, for UC Riverside this season. Saturday is the 42nd time the Matadors and UCR are playing, with CSUN holding a 40-1 all-time series lead. The Matadors have won 17 in a row, including a 4-1 decision last season in Riverside. Saturday is the first time since 2018 that the teams have met in Northridge.
Cal Poly defeated CSUN (6-5, 2-3 Big West) 4-0 last Saturday in Northridge. Ekaterina Repina and Sasha Turchak defeated Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LaMette 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to begin the day. Then, Laura Bente and Peyton Dunkle defeated Victoria Santibañez Luna and Jenna Dorian 6-3 to tie the doubles score. Finally, Emily Ackerman and Kim Bhunu clinched the doubles point when they handed Jolene Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso a 6-4 defeat in the No. 1 match.
The Mustangs won three singles matches to earn the overall victory. Bente defeated Fraile Toboso 6-0, 7-5 at No. 2. LaMette won at No. 3 in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) against Coetzee. Finally, Delanie Dunkle defeated Santibañez Luna 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5. In the unfinished matches, Repina was up 6-3, 3-4 at No. 1 against Bhunu. Ackerman led Turchak 7-6 (9-7), 2-0, in the No. 4 slot, while Peyton Durnkle led Dorian 6-2, 1-4 at No. 6.
