RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Karmyna Becerra's one-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh pushed California Baptist past CSUN 3-2 in the Matadors' final game of the Amy S. Harrison Classic Sunday afternoon.
CSUN stranded a runner in scoring position in the second, third, and fourth innings before breaking through in the fifth. CBU left two runners on in the third and fourth innings as Kenedee Jamerson pitched out of trouble.
In the top of the fifth, pinch-runner Samantha Kwiatkowski scored on a Jordan Schuring wild pitch for the first score of the game. The Lancers tied the score in the bottom of the fifth when Becerra singled in Mia Alvarez.
CSUN loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth. Alyssa Argomaniz relieved Schuring and walked her first batter, Mikayla Carman, to put CSUN ahead 2-1.
Maile Olsen doubled off of Jamerson to begin the bottom of the sixth. Allie Gardiner entered the game to relieve Jamerson. Her first batter, Katelyn Mangrello sacrificed Olsen to third. With two outs, pinch-hitter Nicole Stark doubled in Olsen for the tying score.
Jaymi Steward led off the CSUN seventh by reaching on an error. Kennedi Sorensen reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop that retired Steward. Sorensen stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Lancers' catcher Brooke Piazza. Kaylee Escutia grounded out too short before Aaliyah Swan struck out to end the inning.
Sydney Soto opened the CBU seventh with a single down the left field line. A Gardiner wild pitch allowed Soto to take second. Raegan Cheyne's sac bunt advanced Soto to third setting the stage for Becerra's gamewinner.
CSUN left nine on base while the Lancers stranded seven. Vinessa Nunez posted two of the five CSUN hits. Alvarez recorded two of the eight hits for California Baptist (12-10).
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
"Today was a tough one. CBU capitalized on our error, and it was going to come down to who was able to come through at the end. KJ gave us another solid outing. We didn't play clean softball today. We have to learn from it and get ready for next week."
