BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— Sydney Freijanes went 4-for-4 and tied the CSUN school record for most RBI in a game with seven as CSUN completed a weekend sweep of CSU Bakersfield 10-1 Sunday afternoon at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
Shaylene Fuimaono's two-out single up the middle drove in Savanna Montoya in the bottom of the first to give the Roadrunners the lead.
Kaylee Escutia walked to lead off the CSUN second. Alexa Landeros beat out a bunt attempt for a single which advanced Escutia to second. Vinessa Nunez reached on an error by Roadrunner shortstop Cydney Curran to load the bases. Freijanes doubled to right center to clear the bases to give CSUN a 3-1 lead. Freijanes advanced to third on a Kirsten Martinez wild pitch and scored on an Aaliyah Swan single to make 4-1.
Reina Castillo relieved Martinez. Her first batter was Mikayla Carman, who grounded out too short. Swan took second on the play. A Castillo pitch hit Alexis Lemus. Castillo fielded a Jaymi Steward and threw to first for the second out as both runners moved up a base. Kennedi Sorensen flew out to right to end the inning.
Karissa Munsey singled to open the bottom of the second. Maya Molina -Villare grounded out, which allowed Munsey to reach second. Kenedee Jamerson struck out Kaia Johnson. On a 3-2 Jamerson pitch, Cieana Curran was ruled out due to batter's inference which ended the inning.
Escutia, the Matador clean-up hitter, successfully bunted for a single to lead off the CSUN third. Landeros singled to right. Nunez's sacrifice bunt allowed both runners to advance. Freijanes smacked a single to left, which plated both runners. Swan grounded into a 6-5 fielder's choice for the second out. Carman tripled in Swan with a blast to right-center to create a 7-1 score.
Kylie Galindo started the CSUN seventh with a single up the middle. Escutia followed with her second single of the day. Landeros doubled to right to score Galindo. With one out, Freijanes singled down the right field line to drive in Galindo and Escutia to the school mark.
Freijanes' seven-RBI performance ties her with Katie Hooper (vs. Grand Canyon, 2/20/15) and Jen Moshier (vs. Penn, 3/9/06) for the school record. She also scored a run. Landeros went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Escutia was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
