ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CARLENE MITCHELL
"There is a reason Sydney Brown is a first-team All-Conference player, and she showed that tonight. We did a good job of controlling the tempo in the first half. Despite being up six or seven points in the second half, we continue to be unable to put teams away. Some of that is on the defensive end, and some do not understand how to win games. We are playing to lose and not to win. Although we had four players in double figures, we did a great job on the boards, again, the free throw line continues to haunt us."
THE STATS
Brown was 9-of-20 from the field, 4-of-9 from three-point range, and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Cangelosi posted 15 as only five UC San Diego players scored in the game. Jackson paced CSUN with 15 points. Spriggs charted 12 points and eight rebounds. Duchemin tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Amundsen added 10.
CSUN limited the Tritons to 32.7% shooting (18-of-55) while going 41% from the floor (25-of-61). UCSD made 10-of-30 three-point attempts while not allowing a three-pointer from the Matadors (0-8). CSUN outrebounded UCSD 42-32, outscoring the Tritons 28-16 in the paint. UC San Diego drew 19 CSUN fouls, resulting in 16-of-19 from the charity stripe. CSUN drew 13 fouls, going 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
