
CSUN Sets School Single-Round Record, Moves up to 7th in Hawai'i

LAHAINA, Hawai'i - The CSUN men's golf team set a new program record after firing a final round 20-under 264 to move up seven spots into seventh place at the conclusion of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational Saturday at Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course.
The Matadors, who began the day in 14th place at even-par 568, wound up seventh in the 20-team field at 20-under 832. CSUN's team round of 264 bested the previous single-round record (-15, 269) set on the same course in 2021. The Matadors' 54-hole tournament score (832) ranks second in program history, behind the same 2021 team that finished at 26-under 826 at Royal Ka'anapali.
Four CSUN players finished at 69 or better on Saturday, led by Felix Schrott's career-best 7-under 64. Antoine Sale was the low Matador for the fifth time in five fall tournaments, tying for eighth at 10-under 203. Sale had eight birdies and one double bogey in the final round to finish the day at 6-under 65. Sale's 65 was a season-low, as was his tournament score of 203.

The Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate is the final tournament for CSUN this fall. The Matadors will return to the course on Feb. 6 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert.

- Schrott, who began the day tied for 68th at 2-over 144, had a team-high eight birdies in the final round to move up into a tie for 30th at 5-under 208. In addition to his eight birdies, Schrott had nine pars and a single bogey as he set a career-low at 64. Â
- Eirik Thomassen also had his best round of the tournament on Saturday, carding a 2-under 69 to tie for 58th at 1-under 212. Thomassen posted five birdies and three bogeys in the final round. Â
- Brandon McDonough had an eagle and one birdie on Saturday, along with four bogeys and one double bogey, to finish tied for 8oth at 4-over 217 following a final round 3-over 74.Â
- Thomas Burou fired a career-low 5-under 66 in the final round to move into a tie for 85th at 5-over 218. Burou had seven birdies and two bogeys on Saturday to move up 21 spots in the leaderboard.
- CSUN also fielded a pair of individuals as Dillon Jonke and Liam Judkins also had their best rounds of the tournament on Saturday. Jonke four birdies in carding an even-par 71 to finish in a tie for 94th at 7-over 220. Judkins finished with four birdies in a 5-over 76 to tie for 116th at 18-over 231.
