LAST TIME OUT
CSUN completed an unconventional two-game series with Pepperdine earlier this week with each team picking up a win at Matador Field. On Sunday, the Waves held off a late charge from the Matadors, who scored two runs in the ninth, in a 5-4 victory. Two days later, CSUN would complete a four-run rally, scoring five in the fourth inning and the go-ahead run in the sixth via a Pepperdine error for a 6-5 triumph.
The Matadors' bullpen again was strong in the two-game series, tossing 10 combined shutout innings. Thomas Bainton worked five shutout frames, scattering two hits with five strikeouts on Sunday. In Tuesday's win, Isaac Ontiveros stranded two runners in the sixth before Joshua Romero protected a one-run lead with three scoreless frames for his first save of the season. Hayden Cody would also work a shutout frame in the series.
On the offensive side, catcher Graysen Tarlow drove in five of the team's 10 runs including a bases-clearing double that gave CSUN a lead on Tuesday. Joey Kramer would belt a two-run homer in the ninth of Sunday's loss.
The series with Pepperdine was scheduled after both the Matadors and Waves had their weekend series canceled due to inclement weather. CSUN and Pepperdine scheduled a three-game home-and-home series as a makeup for those missed games, however, the weather forced the series to shrink to two games with CSUN hosting both of those contests.
