NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN men's and women's track and field teams open the outdoor schedule this week when the Matadors compete in the UCSB Invite.
The meet begins on Wednesday and Thursday when CSUN enters Brianna Kelpis, Audrie Reuss, and Elizabeth Chidester in the heptathlon with the action getting underway 12:30 p.m. Thursday's competition begins at 1 p.m.
Due to a poor weather forecast, the main portion of the meet has been moved from Friday to Saturday. The field events are set for 10:30 a.m. with the running events beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Scheduled to compete are Cal Poly, CSUN, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara.
The Matadors capped off the indoor season Feb. 17-18 with a strong performance at the MPSF Championships. CSUN completed a sweep of the men's sprints. Logan Davis lowered the school record in the 60m dash to :6.64 as he became the first CSUN athlete to win the event at the MPSFs since 2004 (Rashad Allen). Davis' previous mark was :6.73, which he co-held the record with Bradley Ike (2010). Davis' time would be the 27th best in Division I this season, placing him in contention to qualify for the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.
Davis became the first CSUN entry since 2004 (Rashad Allen, 60/200) to win two individual events at the MPSFs. He won the first of four 400m heats in the timed final by going :47.23, the second fastest performance in school history.
David Phillips, Jr. became the first Matador to win an MPSF title since 2008 (Thomas Ross, 60m hurdles) when he won the 200m in a time of :21.02. His performance is the second quickest in school history.
Arianna Alexander scored CSUN's points on Friday by finishing sixth in the 200m. Her time of :24.46 is the 10th fastest in school history. Earlier in the day, she won her preliminary race in the 60m dash. Alexander's :7.45 was the second-best time of the preliminaries. On day two, Alexander finished fourth in the 60m in a time of :7.49.
Charne-Lee Olkers placed fourth in the 60m hurdles, running :8.71.
Alba Moreno Paredes tied for eighth in the high jump with Elizabeth Churchill of UC Davis as both went 5-1 3/4.
